Interbike Changes Course; Returns to Las Vegas

Organisers of cycling's main North American trade show, Interbike, have announced the show will remain in Las Vegas for the next two years. The announcement follows an underwhelming response to its August announcement that the show would move forward to August and to Anaheim, CA. More

ITU Announces 2011 World Series Dates, Locations

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has announced the 2011 dates and cities for the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series. The seven city series will begin in April in Sydney and finish in September in Beijing.  There are no North American events on the schedule. More

 

USA Track & Field Starts CEO Search Process

Interviews for candidates to replace the fired Doug Logan as chief executive of USA Track and Field are likely to start next year with a decision expected early in 2011. The organization announced this week that the process of creating a candidate pool has already been started by a search committee formed by USA Track's board of directors and an executive search firm. The search committee is chaired by Steve Miller, chief executive of the Agassi Foundation, and includes five fellow board members, among them 2004 Olympic marathon bronze medalist Deena Kastor and 1992 Olympian Steve Holman. Ironman 70.3 Champs Moves to Lake Las Vegas in 2011

Beginning in 2011, the Ironman World Championship 70.3 will move to Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, NV., located just minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip. Since its inception in 2006, the championship race in the global Ironman 70.3 Series has been held in Clearwater, FL.  The race will be held on September 11. More

 

B of A Chicago Marathon Honors Daleys with Donation, Award

Continuing the charitable heritage of the Bank of America Chicago

Marathon, Bank of America announced last week a $500,000 contribution to the Chicago Youth Fitness Initiative  in honor of Mayor Richard M. Daley and Maggie Daley who have been longtime supporters of the marathon and youth-oriented programming.  Additionally, the bank announced the establishment of The Mayor Richard M. Daley and Maggie Daley Award, which will be given annually to the marathon participant who raises the most funds for charity through the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. More 

 

Boulder Planners Say Go Slow on Proposed Training Center

Saying the matter still needs "considerable thought" and a better process, Boulder's planners are recommending that the City Council hold off on pursuing a proposal to construct a sprawling multi-sport training complex in north Boulder. The proposal by Boulder neurosurgeon and 14-time Ironman triathlete Alan Villavicencio calls constructing a 61-acre multi-sport complex that would include a 100-room hotel and conference center, pools, running tracks, a cycling velodrome and a 100,000-square-foot fitness center. More


Mount Marathon Joins Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

Mount Marathon was inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2011 during a press conference Monday morning. The 83-year-old, 3.5 mile mountain race in Seward was honored under the greatest events category, joining other signature events such as the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, the Great Alaska Shootout, the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics and the 100-year-old Midnight Sun Baseball Game.

Corrigan Considers Dropping Marathon From Frederick Events

The Frederick Running Festival will take place in May 2011, but the Frederick Marathon may be history. Corrigan Sports, which puts on the festival in the western Maryland town, is evaluating which races will be part of the event, according to Dave Gell, Corrigan spokesman. A decision should be made next week. The festival consists of a marathon, a half-marathon, a marathon team relay and a 5K race. More

Cervelo to Include Bike Retailers in Online Sales

Cervélo is introducing a new online sales strategy in 2011 whereby its local bike dealers will fulfill orders placed on the company's website. Starting early next year the Cervélo website will allow customers in North America to choose and order their Cervélo bike online. This bike will then be delivered through their Cervélo retailer of choice. More

USAT Names NYC Sports Center as Certified Training Center

USA Triathlon announced Wednesday that New York City's Sports Center at Chelsea Piers has been selected as a USA Triathlon Certified Training Center, one of only five such facilities in the United States and the only one in the Northeast.  More

Toronto Women's Run Series Signs Deal with Mizuno Canada 

Toronto Women's Run Series

The Toronto Women's Run Series has announced that Mizuno Canada has agreed to a three-year sponsorship commitment that stretches across all race events. The new deal will take effect starting in January 2011 and will position Mizuno as a major sponsor of the half marathon and 5K event in May, the 5K and 10K event in August, and series' newest event, the 5 Miler and 5K in October. More

Hugh Brasher,  the son of London Marathon co-founder Chris Brasher and the current deputy race director, has been selected to become the race director in 2013. He will work with long-time race director Dave Bedford, who is planning to reduce his role with the race to part-time starting in 2013. More

 

Tom Tolworthy, a former executive with Barnes & Noble and The Vitamin Shoppe, has been hired by Performance Bicycle as its president and chief operating officer. Performance Bicycle has more than 90 retail stores nationwide.

 

Rob Vigorito, founder of the Columbia Triathlon Association and race director for CTA events, was seriously injured in a bicycle accident Wednesday in Kona, HI. While trying to avoid a truck that had pulled in front of him on the Queen K Highway, Vigorito wound up going over his handlebars and into the truck. Reports from his family indicate that he suffered mulitple broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

As a Running Specialty Sales Representative, you will represent New Balance accessories, apparel, and footwear to Running Specialty Dealers and achieve sales objectives and quotas within an assigned territory. You will educate dealers' staff on product benefits, features, and technologies and you will explain basic biomechanics, ankle and foot anatomy, gait analysis, and shoe fitting techniques. You will facilitate product distribution, wear-testing and formal feedback gathering from Running Specialty Dealers as you serve as technical liaison for internal product teams.
