Nike announced Thursday it posted a nine percent profit in its first quarter and that the future, based on advanced sales, looks brighter than ever.  Nike had a profit of $559 million for the quarter, which is up 10 percent from last year. More 
  
USATF to Look Within Sport for New Leader

After a tumultuous two years under a chief executive officer with a non-track and field background, USA Track & Field officials are insisting their new leader be familiar with the sport. "It should be someone who is either in or has had a long history of dealing with the sport," Steve Miller, chair of the search committee seeking a replacement for fired CEO Doug Logan, told Reuters in a telephone interview from Las Vegas. Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series Expands to St. Louis

Competitor Group Inc., which owns and operates the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, will take over reins of the St. Charles, MO Lewis & Clark Marathon event from Fleet Feet Sports St. Louis. They will also move the marathon and half marathon routes so that either all or part of them run through St. Louis. More
 
Active Network Survey Shows Strong Support for Triathlon

The Active Network announced this week results of a new survey focused on the motivators and behaviors of triathletes. The survey of 1,560 triathletes, recruited exclusively from Active Network's Active Lifestyle Panel, reveals that once someone participates in a triathlon they are hooked on the sport. In fact, over 90 percent of those surveyed plan to participate in a triathlon event in 2011 with 32 percent indicating they plan on participating in five or more triathlons in 2011. More

County Grants 60-Day Blackout Around 70.3 Muncie Race

Weeks before it was publicly announced that the Muncie Endurathon had been purchased by the World Triathlon Corporation and would become part of the Ironman 70.3 series, the Delaware County commissioners promised they would implement a 60-day blackout of competing events on roads near Prairie Creek Reservoir, site of the July 9 race. But word of the blackout surfaced only this week, and the news has left Steve Tomboni of Muncie Multi-Sport, wondering what the blackout means to his annual slate of five races. More
 
Local Officials Come to Aid of Lake Tahoe Marathon

Race director Les Wright received word Wednesday that Caltrans had canceled all encroachment permits due to California's budget crisis. That meant runners would have been forced to the shoulder of the road for all of Sunday's various races. But, thanks to intervention by South Lake Tahoe mayor Kathay Lovell and state assemblyman Roger Niello (Sacramento), the El Dorado and Placer County Sheriff's departments will have officers in place Sunday morning. Interbike Sets Dates for 2011 Show

Interbike organizers announced this week that it would stage its 2011 show in Anaheim, CA on August 8-12.   Show management considered August 1-5, but the decision to settle on the second week of August came about due to the overlap with the Outdoor Retailer trade show, set for August 3-7. More

Garmin Ltd. this week announced the acquisition of MetriGear Inc., a cycling equipment company based in Santa Clara, CA. Garmin described MetriGear as the creator of an innovative, pedal-based meter that measures power performance for cycling and other sports. More
 
MapMyFitness Receives Funding to Continue Growth
 
MapMyFitness, a Denver-based company that offers online and mobile fitness tracking applications, has raised $5.0 million in a Series A financing led by Austin Ventures, one of the nation's leading venture and growth equity firms. This investment will enable MapMyFitness to consolidate its leadership position in the rapidly emerging global online and mobile fitness application market, further develop its core offerings, and push its brand deeper into a wide variety of fitness categories. Three States Add High School Mountain Bike Leagues

The National Interscholastic Cycling Association has announced the formation of three new high school mountain biking leagues in Texas, Washington and Minnesota.Texas and Washington are both project leagues, meaning the leagues are already structured, while Minnesota is an emerging league as its progress is still in the early stages. Columbus Marathon Dropouts to Get Limo Ride

Organizers of the Columbus Marathon  have announced that they will be offering a lift in a stretch limousine to anyone who has to stop and can't go any farther. Race director Darris Blackford says he wanted something better to boost runners' spirits than the school bus he once had to ride.
About 5,000 people are expected to run in the October 17 race.
 
Pittsburgh's Great Race Hits 14,000 for First Time

A record field will participate in this Sunday's Richard S. Caliguiri Great Race, which sold out on Tuesday when registration hit 14,000. Organizers of the Pittsburgh race capped entry to the race for the first time ever this year after last year's race reached 12,788, just 19 runners short of tying the record of 12,807 set in 1987. This will be the largest field in the 33-year history of the race, which started in 1977 with 400 participants. More

Enge will work directly with the management team, media developers and third party suppliers to help identify and execute new revenue and equity value building opportunities for the company.
 
Mike Schmitz has been was named president of Electric City Printing, a Consolidated Graphics Company.  Mike has spent the last six years as the vice president of the company's Competition Media Division.  Mario Reyna, who joined Electric City Printing in January, from Clear Visions, another Consolidated Graphics Company, will assume the role of vice president of the Competition Media Division.
