USA Track & Field Ousts CEO Logan

USA Track and Field voted to fire its chief executive Doug Logan last weekend during meetings in Las Vegas. The board decided Logan was not adequately proceeding with a strategic plan for the 2012 Olympic Games as outlined in his Project 30 report released in February 2009. The report outlined a plan to win 30 medals in London. It appears the federation was not generating sufficient money to support the project's goals. More

Interbike to Relocate to California in 2011

Starting next year, Interbike, the largest U.S. bicycle trade show, will be held in Anaheim, CA. The five-day show will start August 1 with two days at Outdoor Demo tentatively set for Irvine Regional Park. The show then moves into the Anaheim Convention Center August 3-5. More

Boulder Fires Postpone, Cancel Endurance Events

The Boulder Marathon, which was scheduled for Sunday at Boulder Reservoir, has been postponed until October 3. Firefighters working on the Fourmile Canyon wildfire have been camping at the reservoir's sites. The Boulder Bike Classic, which was supposed to be Sunday, had to be canceled and will not be rescheduled this year. Also postponed this past weekend was the Boulder Sunset Triathlon and Duathlon. There is not a rescheduled date yet. More
Muncie Endurathon Joins Ironman 70.3 Series

World Triathlon Corporation announced last week the addition of the Muncie Endurathon to its 70.3 series of races. The Endurathon will be called Ironman 70.3 Muncie, and it will continue to take place at Prairie Creek Reservoir and the surrounding roads and Cardinal Greenway. More
Fleet Feet Reports 12.5% Sales Growth in 1st Half of 2010

Fleet Feet, Incorporated, the franchisor of running specialty stores, experienced double digit comparative store growth during the first half of the year. The company was up 12.5% in the first half with retail sales totaling 52.6M up from 47.3M one year ago. Comparative store sales were up 11%. More

CrossVegas Organizers Look at Date Change for 2012

Organizers of CrossVegas will likely move the marquee cyclo-cross event from its traditional September spot on the UCI calendar to a later spot in February of 2012. Discussion regarding the date change began when the industry trade show Interbike announced it would move from its current Las Vegas venue and late September calendar position to Anaheim and an August time slot for 2011. The Saucony Run for Good Foundation established to help combat childhood obesity by providing financial support to community-based youth running programs, has announced its latest round of grants. Eight organizations across the country were selected. Since the Foundation's 2006 launch, nearly 70 organizations nationwide have been recipients of Saucony Run For Good grants totaling over $600,000. More

The Tour of Utah is taking steps to join the list of International Cycling Union (UCI) sanctioned events slated to take place in the United States of America in 2011. According to USA Cycling's chief operating officer, Sean Petty, the National Racing Calendar stage race plans to upgrade to a UCI 2.1 license. More

Always Advancing Signs Deal with Australia's Melbourne Marathon
Always Advancing, the manufacturer of medals and awards, has expanded its business to Australia with its agreement to provide medals for the historic St. George Melbourne Marathon which attracts more than 20,000 runners each year. This year's race, in October, will mark the race's 32nd anniversary. AA's president Chris Seiler says that St. George was a natural fit. "We feel Australian races are a good market for us, since our office is in China. We can communicate with the directors frequently an ensure their getting the best product we have to offer," he said. Wisconsin Resort Owner Criticizes Town's Fee Plan

Chula Vista Resort owner Mike Kaminski confronted the Dell Prairie (WI) Town Board at a meeting this month over its new, special events fee, saying that the town risks losing the chance to host events because the fee is "exorbitant." Last month the board passed an ordinance regulating events such as the Wisconsin Dells Marathon and Half Marathon scheduled on Dell Prairie roads October 24. The board would charge organizers of an event a $500 base fee and an unlimited $2 per participant fee for a permit. The race is scheduled to start and finish at Kaminski's resort. More

Ragnar Relay Series presented by NordicTrack has announced the addition of the Ragnar Relay Napa Valley and the Ragnar Relay Pennsylvania to its 2011 national lineup.
