2012 Olympic Triathlon Course to Showcase London Landmarks

The bike leg of the Olympic triathlon at London 2012 will be used to showcase a number of landmarks the in British capital. Hyde Park will host the start and the finish of the race with the 1,500m swim leg taking place in the Serpentine and 10km run being contained within or directly adjacent to the park, as has been the case for the London leg of the ITU World Championship Series. However, in a departure from the previous course, the 40km bike section at the Olympics will see competitors take in Constitution Hill, Hyde Park Corner, Wellington Arch, Buckingham Palace and the Victoria Memorial. NYC Marathon's Charity Funds Boosted by Actor's Website

Mary Wittenberg, the president and chief executive of New York Road Runners. thinks the marathon has a shot at raising a record $26.2 million, or a million a mile, for charity this year thanks in part to Crowdrise.com, a social networking website that actor Edward Norton and three partners started in May. Wittenberg says the site has the potential to revolutionize charitable giving. More
 
Sun Valley, Augusta Selected to Host USA Cycling Championships

Sun Valley, ID will host the 2011 and 2012 cross-country mountain bike championships and Augusta, GA will host the junior, U23, elite and paralympic road nationals for those two years. USA Cycling is splitting up the cross-country and gravity mountain bike nationals starting next year. USA Cycling has not announced the date and location of the gravity nationals. More
 
Nation's Tri on Pace to Be Largest Olympic Distance Race in US
The Nation's Triathlon 
The Nation's Triathlon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is on pace to become the largest International distance triathlon event in the United States.  With nearly 7,000 registered participants, it is anticipated that this Sunday's race in Washington, DC will surpass the previous documented record of 3,731 from the 2006 Accenture Chicago Triathlon. More

Cycling, Publishing Vets Launch Move Press, Peloton Magazine

A group of bicycle and publishing industry veterans has launched Move Press. The first media property to come from Move Press will be Peloton whose Web site will launch on September 21 and will be followed by a bi-monthly print edition on newsstands November 8. More
San Jose Interested in Tour of California Stage Finish Only

A San Jose official made it clear yesterday that San Jose will only accept a stage finish in the 2011 Amgen Tour of California - not a start as it has hosted the past two years.  Paul Krutko, San Jose's chief development officer, said the city isn't interested in holding a midweek start after being one of only two cities involved in every tour. Team San Jose Signs Three-Year Deal with RnR San Jose Half

Team San Jose, a partnership of the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau and local hotel, arts and labor organizations, announced last week that it has secured a three-year contract with Rock 'N' Roll San Jose Half Marathon projected to generate nearly $42 million for the local economy.
"We're pleased to bring our partnership with this signature San Jose event to a new level," said Team San Jose CEO Dan Fenton. More
 
Virginia's Endorphin Fitness Expands, Adds Retail Operation

Endorphin Fitness, the Richmond, VA area triathlon training business owned by Michael Harlow, has expanded its business by adding 3,400 square feet in front of its studio.  The new space will be used to sell some triathlon-specific equipment and gear, including bikes and bike accessories, apparel and running shoes. The expanded space also includes a service department. More
 
Madison Marathon Takes Stand Against Race Bandits

A 56-year-old Wisconsin woman who ran in May's Madison Marathon without registering or paying a fee has been "permanently banned" from the event by race organizers.  Marathon officials intend to take a tougher stance against freeloading runners in the future, using volunteers to identify bandits so they can be ejected.  "We have to keep this secure for registered participants," said Rita Kelliher, president of Madison Festivals Inc. ATC Announces New Atlanta Half Race Course

The Atlanta Track Club announced a new course for the 2010 Atlanta Half Marathon that will take place on November 25.  The Atlanta Half Marathon, which previously started on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Chamblee and finished just outside of Turner Field on Hank Aaron Drive, will now start and finish outside of Turner Field.  The new  course will pass by well-known Atlanta landmarks including Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, Oakland Cemetery, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Georgia State Capitol and under the Olympic Rings.
 
West Virginia Race May Change to Half Marathon to Up Numbers

Sometime this month, the Charleston Distance Run committee will meet to address the race's future - and perhaps vote on whether to continue as a 15-mile event or change to a half-marathon.But first, the city of Charleston, which contributed more than $10,000 in employee pay to Saturday's race, wants to meet with the committee. Distance Run director Aaron Allred fears city officials may cite the race's declining numbers and say they're not getting enough bang for their buck. More
 
Work Begins on New Rochester Area Bike Trails

Preliminary work has begun on trails for off-road cycling in two county parks. The issue of bikes in the parks has been debated for years, and in May 2009, a plan to allow the practice for an 18-month window was approved in Tryon Park and Irondequoit Bay Park West. More

Dave McGillivray, president of DMSE Sports Inc., has been appointed race director for the December 5 Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, one of the world's largest road races with 60,000 participants in four running events. The event marks the first foray into Southeast Asia for Boston area-based DMSE  and McGillivray, the longtime race director of the BAA Boston Marathon. More
 
Chris Lindner has been appointed by Saucony to the newly created role of senior vice president/chief marketing officer. Lindner will be responsible for providing strategic development and execution of  Saucony's global branding initiatives, including brand positioning, marketing and retail strategies, as well as advertising, general marketing communications and digital strategies.  Prior to his new role at Saucony, Lindner was vice president of global marketing at Converse Inc.
 
Alexander Adams has been selected as the new president of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon.  Adams, a member of the IMM's board of directors, will succeed Carlton Ray, who founded and has guided the race since its inception in 2008, after the November 6 event.
