Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Race on Hurricane Watch

Hurricane Earl has runners, tourists and residents on alert in Virginia Beach. Nearly 20,000 racers will be in town on Sunday for the annual Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon. The storm is forecast to move near the area late tonight or early tomorrow. So far, organizers of the Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Marathon still expect the race to go off as planned. "This is definitely on our radar, but at this time it looks like Sunday's half-marathon will take place as scheduled," according to Dan Cruz a spokesperson for the Competitor Group, owner of the Rock 'n' Roll series. Ironman Arizona Looks at Race Course Options

Officials of the Ironman Arizona triathlon event are looking at Saguaro Lake as a possible alternative for the swim if repairs to Tempe Town Lake are not finished by November 21. Work began this week to replace the four inflatable bladders used to create the lake, which emptied the night of July 20 when one of the old bladders broke sending 1 billion gallons of water down the Salt River channel. Tahoe area officials are anxious to know if pro cycling's Amgen Tour of California will select Lake Tahoe to kick off its 2011 race, a choice that could spell huge revenues for basin businesses. Army Ten-Miler Youth Run officials have announced that the world's fastest land animal, the cheetah, will serve as the mascot for the 26th annual race which starts and ends at the Pentagon on October 24. Since every mascot has distinctive name, race officials are conducting a first-ever "name the cheetah mascot contest". The contest is open to children between 4 and 14 of active-Army, National Guard and Reserve families. More

Pacific Grove Tri Adds Running Events
Pacific Grove (CA) triathlon organizers have added new running events to this year's Triathlon at Pacific Grove. A 10K race will kick off the olympic distance events on September 11. September 12's sprint distance triathlon events will be preceded with a 5K. "We wanted to offer an event for non swimmers," said race director Terry Davis.
