Logan's Future as USA Track &Field CEO Under Review

Doug Logan marked his second anniversary as USA Track and Field's chief executive this week, but learned last week that he could be ousted as early as next month. According to sources within the American governing body for athletics, Logan was in Columbus, Ohio, last Thursday to meet with USATF president Stephanie Hightower and Jeff Darman of the organisation's board of directors. Logan was told he must show improvement by mid-August, or face dismissal. Hightower and Darman confirmed last week's meeting, but declined further comment. "We have an obligation to evaluate our CEO," said Hightower, a former world-class hurdler and USATF's president since December 2008. More
Houston to Use 2011 Half Marathon Champs as OT Preview

The Houston Marathon Committee announced this week that Houston will host 2011 USA Half Marathon Championships and will hold the championship race on the Saturday before the 39th Chevron Houston Marathon on an eight-mile loop course designed to give athletes a preview of the 2012 Olympic Trials marathon course. The January 29 championships will also allow athletes to experience the Houston Marathon Committee's operating plans for the 2012 Olympic Trials. More
Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Reports $54M Benefit for San Diego

This year's Rock `n' Roll Marathon had a $54 million impact on San Diego's economy, including $34 million in direct visitor spending, according to a study released this week by the Competitor Group. The marathon, which was held June 6, drew 37,463 marathon-related visitors to San Diego from all 50 states and 23 countries, according to the study conducted by San Diego State University's Sports MBA program. Tempe Hopes to Repair Lake in Time for Fall Triathlons

Tempe is making plans to reconstruct Tempe Town Lake, which went flowing down the Salt River bed when one of its rubber dam bladders burst. The lake is used by several triathlons, including Ironman Arizona. Tuesday's breach reduced Tempe Town Lake to a muddy basin. Nathan's Triathlon, scheduled at the lake in September, probably will have to be rescheduled or moved, officials said. But, they voiced confidence the Soma Half-Triathlon in October and the Ironman Arizona Triathlon in November will be held. More
River Conditions Force Postponement of Missouri River 340

The Missouri River 340, the world's longest nonstop river race, has been postponed because of dangerous conditions along the Missouri River. The race, scheduled to take place July 27-30, has been moved to August 24. Participants registered in the race who can not make the re-scheduled event will be offered a voucher to participate in the 2011 race. More
Aspen Looks at Proposal to Add Cycling Backcountry Marathon

The Aspen City Council told the town's event planning staff Monday night to take "baby steps" in an effort to add a backcountry marathon to next year's Aspen Cycling Criterium. Atlantic City Marathon Picks New Date, Course

The Atlantic City Marathon announced Friday that it's returning for its 52nd year on October 17. Last year's race was first cancelled, then postponed until November. Marathon organizers also said that they are completely redoing the race route. "We've eliminated the old course that had participants running back and forth on the same route multiple times," said race director Brian Barry. More
Cowtown Growth Leads to New 2011 Location

Growth necessitated a new start-finish line for The Cowtown, Fort Worth's annual multiple-road race extravaganza. The 2011 events, to be held February 25-27, will move to the Will Rogers Memorial Center after seven years at Sundance Square. "We were looking for indoor facilities for our expo and packet pickup in case the weather is not good," said executive director Heidi Swartz, who anticipates a combined 25,000 participants for the seven races. Eugene Women's Half Adds Chocolate Maker as Sponsor
The Eugene Women's Half ihas announced that chocolate maker Ghirardelli will be a sponsor of the September 5 race. As part of the sponsorship, Ghirardelli will be providing chocolate samples to all competitors at the finish of the Oregon half marathon race.
