B.A.A. Half Marathon Sells Out in Two Hours

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced Wednesday that registration for the 2010 B.A.A. Half Marathon has closed after its field size limit of 6000 was reached two hours after registration opened. The race through Boston and Brookline's Emerald Necklace park system will be run on October 10. More
WTC Releases 2011 Ironman World Champs Qualifying Rules

The World Triathlon Corporation has released the final rules for how professionals will qualify for the 2011 Ironman World Championship and how prize money will be distributed. Earlier in the year the organization had established new rules for the way prize money is distributed. Discussions of those new rules with professional triathletes led to a few changes in the new rules. More
Money Woes Force Univest Grand Prix to Drop Stage

Financial troubles in the U.S. cycling event world continued with the annoucement on Friday by Sparta Cycling, Inc. that the Allentown, PA stage of the Univest Grand Prix has been cancelled due to lack of funding. Now in its 13th year, the Univest Grand Prix will return to a two-day event format with the first day in Souderton, PA on September 11 and the second in Doylestown, PA on September 12. Professional cycling events have been hit hard this past year with the cancellation of the Tour of New York, the Tour of Missouri and the US Open of Cycling. More |

The 2011 USA Running Circuit will include a stop in USA Track & Field's home state with the USA Men's 8 km Championship to be held on June 11 in Carmel, IN. The championship will be hosted by the inaugural Carmel Marathon Championship Weekend which will offer a marathon, half marathon, 1-mile Family Fitness walk and an 8 km run featuring the men's championship and a total prize purse of $20,000. NRA Convention Forces Pittsburgh Marathon Date Change

The Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon will be moving from its first Sunday in May date because of a conflict with NRA 2011, the National Rifle Association of America's annual conference being held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The event was booked in 2007, two years before the marathon returned from its five-year hiatus. The race has chosen May 15 as the 2011 race date. More

Missouri's St. Charles County Considers Bike Ban

An effort is underway to ban bicyclists from several narrow two-lane highways in semi-rural southwest St. Charles County, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. There was a packed house at a Monday night council meeting, with people speaking out on both sides of the issue. The proposal has been tabled for now, and is expected to be taken up again in August. Nissan Renews ING Miami Marathon Sponsorship
Nissan North America has agreed to return as title sponsor of the ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon's Nissan Health and Fitness Expo presented by The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. Nissan will serve as the official vehicle of the January 30 event.

USA Triathon, Endurance Films Extend Partnership
USA Triathlon and Endurance Films have announced their continued partnership with a new two-year agreement designating the Louisville, KY-based video production company as an official supplier and the official film production company of USA Triathlon through 2011. Endurance Films and USA Triathlon will continue to collaborate on all USAT-branded video properties, such as the five-part "USA Triathlon Training Series," which was released earlier this year. |
