Pro Triathletes Form New Association

Over three hundred and fifty professional triathletes and duathletes have joined together to form the Professional Triathlon Association (PROTA), a non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion and representation of professional multi-sport athletes. PROTA was formed to expand the quality and quantity of competitions and sponsorships, establish and maintain standards of ethical behavior and safety in the sport, and offer professional development guidelines. Lack of Funding Stops Tour of New York Race

After months of rumors surrounding the status of the UCI 2.2 Tour de New York, event organizers have officially pulled the plug on the five-day event that was scheduled to take place from August 7-11 near Rochester, NY. Race director Todd Scheske cited a lack of funding was main reason for canceling the race. The tour was to have been part of USA Cycling's Pro Tour. More
Funding Issues Reduce Tour de Toona to One Day

Race organizers of the International Tour de Toona were forced to reduce the seven-day professional women's stage race down to a one-day criterium held on August 29th in Altoona, PA. "Unfortunately we were unable to secure the funding needed to pull off the seven-day event as well as we wanted to, so we will be hosting a one-day criterium event," said Pam Snyder, event spokesperson. Bay To Breakers Announces Alcohol Ban for 2011 Race

Organizers of San Francisco's Bay to Breakers road race, which marks its centennial next May, declared a last call for alcohol Wednesday, challenging the 92,000 people who descend on the 7 1/2-mile course every year to show up sober. After fielding complaints from residents along the route, losing a corporate sponsor and transporting 30 intoxicated people to the hospital this year, organizers of the nation's 10th largest race were hoping to end the tradition of drinking, spokesman Sam Singer said. Laramie Enduro Gets Forest Service Approval

The Laramie Enduro received its permit from the U.S. Forest Service last week, and planning is back on track for the July 31 mountain bike race in the Medicine Bow National Forest. Race director Rich Vincent said the permit came through on July 1. The 70-mile race expects 500 riders to compete. More
Nevada Silverman Moves to Lake Las Vegas Resort
Nevada Silverman Triathlon race directors' Frank and Meghann Lowery have announced the move of the race start from Lake Mead National Recreation Park to the Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, NV. The Loews Lake Las Vegas will also be the official host hotel for the event. More
Bend Awarded 2011, 2012 Marathon Mountain Bike Champs
