Running USA Report Shows Strength of Sport in 2009

Running USA's State of the Sport Report, Part II shows that 2009 proved to be another year of astounding growth for running in virtually every sector. From record or sold-out fields across the country, the number of finishers in the sport has increased dramatically as evidenced by the record 467,000 marathon finishers, nearly a 10% increase over the previous year, and more than 1.1 million half-marathon finishers, an incredible 24% growth in 2009.  Running USA estimates that there were approximately 10 million U.S. road race finishers which would be an all-time high. Trek Changes with Gary Fisher to Simplify Product Lines

Trek's John Burke said the company's decision to roll Gary Fisher into the Trek line was driven by desire to simplify its line and grow sales.  By rolling the Gary Fisher Collection under the Trek brand and making it available to all Trek retailers, Trek stands to dramatically increase retail availability. Plans for Houston Area Ironman Moving Forward

According to an agenda and working documents posted online last week for today's Board of Director's Workshop for The Woodlands (TX) Township, it appears very likely that the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in conjunction with the World Triathlon Corporation, the owner of the Ironman brand, is set to bring an Ironman competition to The Woodlands, a suburb north of Houston. Saucony Signs Sponsorship Deal with Commonwealth Tri Series
 
Saucony, Inc. today announced that it has signed on as the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the 2010 Commonwealth Triathlon Series, a leading sprint distance series in New England. Produced by Streamline Events, LLC, the series, in its second year, is composed of the Cohasset Triathlon (June 27), the Nantucket Triathlon (July 10), the Marlborough Triathlon (August 1), and the Scituate Duathlon (October 17). Primal Wear has partnered with MapMyRide.com to design and provide jerseys for the upcoming 2010 Le Tour Challenge benefiting the American Diabetes Association  and powered by MapMyRide.com and Versus.
The 2010 Le Tour Challenge will run concurrently with the Tour de France, July 3 - 25. Wyoming's Enduro Waiting for Forest Service Permit

Less than two months out from the Laramie Enduro's race day, organizers are still waiting to receive an official permit from the U.S. Forest Service for the 70-mile mountain bike race. Laramie District Ranger Larry Sandoval said he didn't foresee anything preventing the permitting of the Enduro, citing staffing issues and an unusually busy winter as reasons the office got behind. Enduro race director Rich Vincent said his planning efforts are on hold until he has the permit in hand, though. More
 
Colorado's Beti Bike Bash Postponed by Bad Weather

The inaugural Beti Bike Bash is postponed until August 1 after inclement weather and impassable trail conditions on its originally scheduled date of June 12. The call was made at 6:00 am on rae morning by the park supervisor of Bear Creek Lake Park and team Yeti Beti. More
 
Raid the North Extreme Delayed Until 2011

Organizers of Raid the North Extreme, the week-long expedition race have decided to reschedule the event until late summer 2011. Raid of the North was originally planned for September 4-12. "We have so many opportunities with funding, television, and enthusiastic partners that repositioning the event to the summer of 2011 will really enable us to take it to the next level for all involved," said race director Geoff Langford.
