Nike Reports 7% Growth in 3Q Sales

Nike Inc. has reported an increase in third quarter sales and earnings, surpassing analysts expectations and sending its shares to a new 52-week high. The athletic apparel and footwear company reported sales of $4.7 billion for the quarter that ended February 28, a 7 percent increase from the $4.4 billion reported in the same period last year. Revenue in North America, Nike's largest market, gained 1 percent to $1.7 billion, boosted by clothing sales. More
 
Honda LA Marathon Sells Out at 25K for 25th Anniversity
 
The 2010 Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss reached its capacity of 25,000 registrants last Friday. It was the first time in the 25-year history of the event that the race has sold out and is an increase of nearly 45 percent over 2009.  The race's new Stadium to the Sea course has helped increase runner interest.  More

U.S. Open of Cycling Cancelled for 2010

The US professional calendar will be one event shorter this year after organisers of the US Open of Cycling announced today that it has cancelled race scheduled for May 4, 2010 in Providence, RI. The US Open Cycling Foundation cited a lack of significant corporate sponsorship for its decision to cancel this year's professional cycling event, but said it hopes to run the event in May 2011.  More
 
Active Network Reports 15% Growth in 2009 Race Entries

The Active Network, Inc.has announced that registration for running events taking place in the United States in 2009 was up over 15 percent over the previous year. The findings, compiled by Active Network's ActiveEndurance division, compared online registration for running events held in both 2008 and 2009 from January through December. More

USA Cycling Moves 24-Hour MTB Championships to Utah

USA Cycling has announced a new venue and date for the 24-houe mountain bike national championships. For the second consecutive year, the 24 hours of Moab will host the race. This year's edition will happen on October 9-10 in Moab, UT. The race was previous scheduled to be held in Hazelton, WV but that race was cancelled for 2010. More

Wisconsin to Host New Unnamed Epic MTB Race

The historic Wisconsin town of Mineral Point will be the starting point for a new 75-mile mountain bike race called the Unnamed Epic.  The race, to be held on August 28, will be officially named after the first edition.  The Unnamed Epic is being organized by Team Sports Inc. of Wauwatosa, WI. The Queen City Marathon in Regina has entered into a multi-year partnership with Saskatchewan Credit Unions. The event now is to be known as the Credit Union Queen City Marathon. The credit unions' three-year, $100,000 commitment comes on the heels of a three-year, $90,000 deal the marathon previously had with SaskCentral -- the service supplier owned by Saskatchewan Credit Unions. Elkhart Lake Adds Endurance Festival to Event Schedule

Bill Peterson has been elected president of the USA Cycling board of directors. Peterson will serve a two-year term.  He replaces Mark Abramson who finished his term as president. 
 
Ian Achey has been hired by La Sportiva as its promotions coordinator. Achey's new position  will include event coordination responsibilities as well as assisting in managing the mountain running ambassador program.

the owner of Bluepoint Race Management in Annapolis, MD and the former race director for the Annapolis Ten Mile race was honored this week with the 2009 Maryland Fitness Council Physical Activity Excellence Award in a ceremony in Baltimore.
