Honolulu Marathon Impact Tops $100M for 5th Straight Year

The Honolulu Marathon generated more than $100 million in spending for the fifth year in a row, according to a study. The economic impact study on the race was released Tuesday by Jerry Agrusa, a travel industry management professor Hawaii Pacific University. Agrusa also found that state taxes and daily spending by Japanese runners were up over the 2008 race. More

Merrell to Sponsor New Down & Dirty Mud Run Series

Merrell and Michael Epstein Sports Productions, Inc. announced today a multi-year partnership for Merrell to be the title sponsor of the Down & Dirty National Mud Run Series. As title sponsor, Merrell will have the exclusive rights to apparel and footwear for the national series. The premiere season of the Merrell Down & Dirty National Mud Run Series will start at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area in Los Angeles on April 25 and will include events in Philadelphia,  New York and Sacramento. LA Marathon Announces $400K+ Prize Purse for 2010

Organizers of the Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss announced this week that a total prize purse of more than $400,000 will be available for the elite men and women competing in the 25th anniversary edition of the race, to be held on March 21.  The money will be split almost evenly between prize money and bonuses for fast times on the new Stadium to the Sea course. The winner of the Honda LA Marathon Challenge, for the first male or female runner to cross the finish line, will receive a $100,000 cash bonus. Canada's TransRockies Stage Race Earns UCI Status

Canada's seven-day TransRockies mountain bike stage race has become the second North American stage race to earn UCI status. This year, the S2-category race will begin in Fernie, British Columbia, on August 8 and will finish on the edge of the Banff National Park in Canmore, Alberta on August 14. More
 
Myrtle Beach Marathon Route Adds More Ocean Views

Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon organizers have altered the race's route for the first time in nine years, and it now includes a jaunt through the South Carolina town's The Market Common for the first time and an extended look at the Atlantic Ocean.  A continuous stretch on Ocean Boulevard  accounts for 10 of the 26.2 miles. Mt. Hood Classic Returns for 2010, Signs Deal with Indie Hops

The Mt. Hood Cycling Classic, a multi-stage road race, has announced that it will return to Portland this year and has signed Indie Hops to be the event's title sponsor. Indie Hops grows and supplies the craft beer industry with Oregon-grown hops. The six-stage race will begin with a prologue on June 1st at Portland International Raceway in north Portland. More

With a course that travels more than 200 miles from Boston Harbor to the tip of Cape Cod, the Cape Relay on May 1-2 will join the growing list of distance relays events across the country. Birmingham Businesses to Benefit from Mercedes Marathon

This weekend's Mercedes Marathon is expected to generate an economic impact of $2.6 million, said David Galbaugh, sports marketing director for the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau. "It comes at a great time for our hospitality industry," he said. Coordinator Valerie McLean said 11,000 athletes from 48 states and six foreign countries are signed up to run in Mercedes Marathon-related events.
