adidas America to Restructure; Sales, Marketing Jobs on the Line

Adidas has launched a restructuring of its North American headquarters in Portland that will ultimately increase employment by 60. But the job mix will change at the athletic footwear and apparel maker's North Portland offices, requiring the company to eliminate an unspecified number of positions, the company acknowledged Wednesday. Most of the jobs to be cut or relocated are in the company's sales and marketing operation, company spokesperson Stephanie Von Allmen said. More
Toronto City Hall Tells Marathons to Go Back to Negotiations

Toronto city hall has given organizers of the two fall marathons one last chance to compromise before embarking on a path that could see one or even both races scuttled and replaced by a single alternative. The Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon and Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon were told to go back to the negotiating table yesterday to solve a scheduling dispute that has both groups staking a claim to their current dates in September and October. Ironman Creates 70.3 U.S. Pro Championship

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has announced its Ironman 70.3 U.S. Pro Championship, an event open to all professional and age group athletes within the sport. For the first time, pros will have the opportunity to earn a coveted title, while competing for a prize purse of $75,000. Houston's Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, the largest not-for-profit healthcare provider in Texas, will serve as title sponsor and official sports medicine provider for the inaugural event. LA Marathon Names KTLA as Broadcast Partner for 2010

The Honda LA Marathon Presented by K-Swiss now has a new broadcast home for 2010: KTLA 5. LA's original television station, owned by the Tribune Company, will broadcast the March 21 race live. USA Cycling Extends Radio Ban to U.S. National Races

Following suit with the UCI's new rule to ban race radios in events classified below the top levels, USA Cycling's Board of Trustees voted last night in an emergency meeting to extend the ban to all US national races. Go Tri Sports to Sponsor South Carolina Triathlon Series
South Carolina triathlon retailer Go Tri Sports has announced an agreement with Set Up Events to be the title sponsor of the Go Tri Sports South Carolina Triathlon Series presented by Steadman Hawkins. The sponsorship is for four years. The series will include 17 events in 2010.
IMT Insurance Renews Des Moines Marathon Sponsorship

The IMT Des Moines Marathon has renewed its sponsorship agreement with title sponsor IMT Insurance, race director Chris Burch told the Des Moines Register. IMT will now sponsor the event through 2014, completing a 10-year relationship with the race. IMT's agreement was scheduled to conclude in 2011. The race is also adding $5,000 to the prize pot for 2010, increasing the overall total to $20,000. More
AdventureCORPS to Host Haiti Fundraiser Bike Ride

Project Athena Racing Series to Start in San Diego
San Diego-based Project Athena is starting a three-city series of one-day events to benefit women who are survivors of serious medical setbacks. The inaugural AKALI Project Athena Racing Series will kick off on May 8 in San Diego with events that include a 15K trail run, a 6K Athena Team Trek, and the Merrell Mini Athena and Mini Zeus Kidz Challenge. Additional competitions will be held in Nashville, TN in September and Raleigh, NC in October. More
Iceman Cometh Bike Ride Makes Wave Changes for 2010

One of the most popular mountain bike races in the U.S., the Iceman Cometh Challenge, has announced changes to its race categories and starting waves for 2010. In 2009, the race attracted 4,000 competitors, some of whom complained of traffic jams."The 2010 race categories will no longer be based on ability and age. They will be based solely on age," said Iceman promoter Steve Brown in an email to previous participants. "Additionally, the 2010 waves will be based on your 2009 time." More

The Sault Ste. Marie (MI) Chamber of Commerce has announced the creation of the Sault Ste. Marie Chase which will include a marathon, half marathon and 10K. The races will be held on September 25, beginning at Lake Superior State University and running along the shores of the St. Mary's River.
Yeti Cycles, Bigfoot Productions Debuts Women's Only Race
Yeti Cycles and Bigfoot Productions will organize the Beti Bike Bash, a women's only mountain bike event, on June 12 at Lakewood, CO's Bear Creek Lake Park. The event will offer several races for all ages and abilities. Beginners (CAT 3) will ride two laps on the five-mile course, with the sport (CAT 2) riders racing three laps, and the Open/Pro race featuring four fast laps. Stillwater Marathon Working to Pay 2009 Race Bills

St. Croix Events, the company that organizes the Stillwater (MN) Marathon, owes $13,306 to the Metropolitan Emergency Services Board for ambulance service, and $9,364 to the sheriff's office and $7,828 to the State Patrol for traffic control for last spring's race. Dave Eckberg, owner of St. Croix Events, said Wednesday that the agencies should be paid soon. Stillwater city officials have approved the May 30 race but some public agencies may required prepayment for services. More |

Molly O'Keefe has been promoted to associate publisher of Runner's World, Bicycling, Running Times and Mountain Bike magazines and Paul Collins has been promoted to advertising director of Bicycling, Mountain Bike, Runner's World and Running Times magazines.
Patrick Sandusky, the former Chicago 2016 spokesman, has been named as the chief communications officer for the U.S. Olympic Committee.. Sandusky took the role at the USOC on an acting basis in October and was appointed to the permanent post this week. Before working for the Chicago 2016 bid, Sandusky spent 10 years at the public relations firm Hill & Knowlton, where he was vice president of sports marketing.
John Duke, the former publisher of Triathlete magazine, has been hired by Ironman to manage content in its print and online channels.
Jason Jablonski has been named race director of the Wenatchee (WA) Valley Duathlon. The race has been tentatively scheduled for April 10. |
