Effort to Bring Giro d'Italia to Washington, DC Moves Forward

The desire to increase interest in the Giro d'Italia, Italy's 21-day cycling race, is driving race director Angelo Zomegnan efforts to bring the first two stages of the 2012 Giro to Washington, DC. Although that move has its critics in the cycling community and will be expensive, it is moving closer to happening. AEG, Pacific Sports Partner on New Breakaway Rides

AEG, owners of the Amgen Tour of California, is partnering with Pacific Sports, an Anaheim-based sports and event management company, to produce "The Breakaway Rides presented by Specialized" to be held in conjunction with the tour.  The two rides will be held in April 2010, a month before the Amgen Tour of California and will be held on portions of the course.  The rides will raise funds for Breakway from Cancer, the initiative of Amgen and the tour. LA Marathon Announces New 'Larger Than Ever' Charity Program
 
LA Marathon officials announced today a larger-than-ever charity program that will aid 60 non-profit organizations raising funds for causes ranging from cancer research to gang intervention to cleaning up coastal waters. "Expanding our charity program is a natural extension of our mission statement which is "to inspire athletes and connect communities," said LA Marathon president Russ Pillar. More 
 
New Balance Deal to Expand Presence in Korea

Athletic footwear and apparel company New Balance has announced an exclusive 11-year Korea distribution agreement with E-land, an innovative integrated fashion and retail company in Korea, as part of the company's plan to expand its presence in key international markets. The distribution agreement commences on January 1, 2010. Key New Balance marketing initiatives planned in Korea for 2010 including the Total Fit marketing campaign, support for major marathons and sponsorship of more than 30 running clubs across the country. New South Dakota Marathon to Be Run in Black Hills

A fall marathon is coming back to South Dakota's Black Hills. Jerry Dunn, who currently oversees two marathons with the Deadwood-Mickelson Trail Marathon and the Lean Horse Ultra, is teaming up with race director Emily Wheeler to put on the Run Crazy Horse marathon beginning in the fall of 2010. The marathon and a half marathon are set for October 3 and will take runners from the Crazy Horse Memorial through downtown Hill City and a loop on the Mickelson Trail. More 
 
Focus Bicycles, Performance Bicycle Announce Sales Alliance

Focus Bicycles USA and Performance Bicycle have announced an alliance in which Focus Bicycles, newly launched in the United States, will be sold through Performance's website, catalog and select retail locations, beginning in spring 2010. Focus produces a complete line of German-engineered road, mountain, triathlon, cyclo-cross and commuter bikes. Asics America to Build New Footwear Distribution Center

Asics America is planning to open a 520,000-square-foot footwear distribution center on 38 acres in Marshall County, MS, by April 2011. The new build-to-suit facility, which will employ 200, will be used to accommodate the company's growth. More

CEO Challenges Expands to Europe

CEO Challenges, the company that lets chief executive officers and business owners compete among themselves in Ironman triathlons and other races, is expanding to Europe. The company chiefs will be able to compete in the Tour de France, Berlin Marathon, Quelle Challenge Roth triathlon and golf and tennis events, the company announced. The top CEOs from each event will be invited to compete in that sport's CEO Challenge World Championship.More
 
Cellcom Green Bay Marathon Moves Shorter Races to Saturday

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has decided to move to a two-day format to create opportunities for more runners and reduce congestion on Sunday morning. The new mini-marathon (2.62 miles) will be held on Saturday, May 15 along with a 1K kids race.  The marathon and half marathon races will be held on May 16. More
 
Myrtle Beach Marathon Sells Out

The Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon and Half-Marathon have sold out earlier than expected. Marathon promoter Mike Shank said the half-marathon has been selling out for a few years, but never this early, and the full marathon has only sold out a couple of times in its 13-year history. The races will be held on February 14. More
 
Indy Mini Marathon Sells Out for 9th Straight Year

For the ninth consecutive year, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has sold out, organizer announced this week. The 500 Festival reached the maximum 35,000 entries on Monday for the 13.1-mile race on May 8.

Create a strands marketing experience at a minimum of 12 sporting events each year.
Organize and outline the details of monthly marketing event to be determined by marketing directors in order to promote the Strands brand, promote the website www.strands.com, and recruit new users and partners to the site.
Promote Strands to all possible users and business partners at the event and follow-up as needed.
Work with business development unit to identify and create focus of marketing on all fronts to build the usership and revenue generating ability of www.strands.com.
Contract well known local athletes to represent Strands.com at events to help promote Strands.
Work with the marketing team to ensure cohesive initiatives at all events that build a strong public view of Strands and create business opportunities.
Organize and manage materials, logistics, meetings, vendors, suppliers, staff for events.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
