Bikes Belong Reports 2008 Rides Draw Over One Million Cyclists

Bikes Belong has releases a new study that found more than one million Americans participated in recreational road ride events in 2008. The total revenue from these approximately 1,700 events topped $240 million, with riders spending nearly $140 million on food, lodging, and other purchases. The study was limited to non-race, on-road events that occurred in the U.S. in 2008, including events such as century rides, family fun rides, major charity rides, and public bike tours. More

Centurion Cycling Race Series to Debut in 2010

Centurion Cycling, a competitive, three-race series with events slated for the roads around Boulder, CO, Madison, WI, and Mammoth Lakes, CA., will debut next summer, organizers Graham Fraser and Len Pettyjohn have announnced. Each two-day Centurion Cycling event will include three separate rides -100 miles, 50 and 25 - allowing participants to choose the appropriate distance for their ability and interest. Centurion-Colorado kicks off the series on July 17-18, Centurion-Wisconsin follows on August 7-8, and Centurion-California completes the schedule on September 11-12. More
Washington, DC Interested in Start of 2012 Giro d'Italia

Washington, DC, has begun a push for the right to host the first two stages of the 2012 Giro d'Italia. The United States' capital city wants to hold a prologue and circuit race, both passing many national monuments. "The course promises to be one of the most spectacular prologues ever used in a Grand Tour. It seems very appropriate that the prologue for the first US start be held in the heart of the nation's capital," said Mark Sommers, race director of DC's Capital Criterium. More

Sarasota Marathon Sold to U.S. Road Sports; Distance Changes

The four-year-old Sarasota Marathon has been sold to U.S. Road Sports and Entertainment Group and will be shorten to a half marathon. The Florida race will be held on March 14. U.S. Road Sports owns races around the country including the ING Miami and ING Georgia marathons. Lisette Riveron, race director and founder of the Sarasota Marathon, is stepping aside but said she would be available to assist the new company. More

Manager, Operations

The Manager, Operations will lead one operations team for a group of 5-8 events, with a focus on course design and implementation. The manager will also guide and oversee all other operational aspects of the race at a macro level, including start line, finish line, band sites, water stations, cheer sites, medical stations, etc. This will include designing all band sites, cheer sites and medical stations which requires a keen sense of direction and understanding of the scope of the event. The position will include high-level coordination with city special events offices, police, traffic control, local contractors, vendors and management of staff to aid the successful execution of the event, and as such will require a significant amount of travel, often for up to a week at a time. The position will also require the ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment with the added ability to multi-task. All this must be done in a professional manner with the ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
Minimum Qualifications:
5 Years experience in design, implementation and coordination of running courses.
Detail oriented and organized.
Ability to multi-task and work on many divergent tasks simultaneously.
Ability to lead and manage a team of internal and contracted staff to implement the operations of the event.
Ability to create and manage budgets.
Computer design skills a plus.
Bachelors Degree Preferred
