IEG Reports $86M in Running, Triathlon Sponsorships in 2009

Tri-California Launches New Alcatraz Triathlon in 2010

Tri-California Events has announced the launch of the Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco.  The new event will be held on August 29.  The announcement comes on the heels of an earlier announcement that Tri-California will no longer be involved in the running of the Escape From Alcatraz triathlon, an event it had organized for 12 years. More
 
No Marine Corps Marathon Race Date Change in 2010
 
A report in the Washington Post that the date of the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon would move from its traditional date of the last Sunday in October was incorrect according to race officials.  The 2010 MCM will be held on October 31.  The date of the 2011 race has not finalized.   
 
Ironman Buys Wisconsin's Spirit of Racine Triathlon

The Racine (WI) County Convention and Visitors Bureau announced last week that the Spirit of Racine Triathlon will become part of the Ironman 70.3 series. World Triathlon Corp., the Tampa, FL.-based company which runs the Ironman events, bought the Racine race from HFP Racing. The race will be renamed as Ironman 70.3 Racine and will held next July 18. More

adidas Reports Drop in 3Q Net Income

Adidas AG said Wednesday its net income fell 30 percent in the third quarter as it saw sales decline, especially at its sport performance division. Adidas said net income fell to euro213 million ($315 million) in the July-September period from euro302 million in the third quarter of 2008.
Revenue for the period fell 7 percent to euro2.9 billion from euro3.1 billion. More 
 
Iceman Mountain Bike Race Celebrates 20th Year

K-Swiss Reports Decreased Revenues in 3Q

K-Swiss Inc. reported this week that its total worldwide revenues decreased 23.7% to $70,633,000 for the third quarter of 2009 compared with $92,629,000 in the prior-year period. Honolulu Marathon Entries Exceed 20,000

The number of entries for the Honolulu Marathon is up compared to last year with entries from Japan leading the field, event organizers said. So far, 20,411 people have already signed up including 12,713 Japanese runners.  Organizers expect the final entry numbers to exceed 24,000. More
 
Parks Canada Denies Permit for Banff Triathlon

An application to hold a triathlon in Banff next year has been denied by Parks Canada. Several factors were listed as to why the proposal by LifeSport Coaching and Events failed to get approval, most notably that Johnson Lake is designated as a wilderness area, and is too sensitive to host this type of event. More

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Houston Marathon Committee and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial stability.
 
In program development and administration, the Executive Director will:
 
1. Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and goals toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
 
2. Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.
 
3. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.
 
4. Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
 
5. Approve organization's operating procedures, policies, and standards.

In relations with staff, the Executive Director will:
 
1. Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
 
2. Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
 
3. See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.
 
4. Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
 
5. Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.  
 
In budget and finance, the Executive Director will:
 
1. Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
 
2. Work with the staff, Treasurer, and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
 
3. Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
 
4. Jointly, with designated board members, conduct official correspondence of the organization and execute legal documents. 
 
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Undergraduate degree, at a minimum
 
Experience:

Individual should possess a minimum of  10 years of directly related experience including 3 to 5 years in a senior managerial capacity with a similar operation.

Must have direct management responsibility for large-scale initiatives involving significant dollar amounts and implications.

Extensive experience working with volunteers.
Not-for-profit experience preferred.

Skills:

Proven leadership and team building skills. Ability to build consensus, rally support around common goals and to motivate groups and individuals. Proven negotiation and mediation skills. Ability to overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relations.

Strong project management skills. Easily balances competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.

Ability to think strategically and creatively.

Ability to rapidly process and comprehend large amounts of detailed information consider the implications and consequences of new facts and make decisions.

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.  Ability to be articulate, concise, compelling and diplomatic.
