Universal Sports to Cover 2016 Olympic Games Announcement

The Universal Sports channel will air live Friday the decision on whether Chicago, Madrid, Tokyo or Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The International Olympic Committee will announce the decision in Copenhagen. The live television coverage will begin at 10 a.m. eastern. UniversalSports.com will also have live streaming video beginning at 2:45 a.m. eastern Friday of the final bid presentations of the four cities beginning with Chicago; Tokyo will follow at 4:45 a.m., Rio de Janeiro at 6:05 a.m., and Madrid at 8:45 a.m.
Los Angeles Marathon Signs Sponsorship Deal with K·Swiss

WTC Adds Two More Ironman 70.3 Races for 2010

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has announced two additions to its 2010 Ironman 70.3 Series. The former Lone Star Half and Mooseman Half Triathlons boast new names as official Ironman 70.3 events. The races, now known as Ironman 70.3 Lone Star and Ironman 70.3 Mooseman, will continue to be produced by race director Keith Jordan and Endorfun Sports and become part of a series that includes nearly 40 races worldwide. Nike Posts 1st Quarter Profits

Nike Inc., the world's largest athletic-shoe maker, posted first-quarter profit that exceeded analysts' estimates as it cut marketing and personnel costs. The shares gained after the close of regular U.S. trading. Atlantic City Marathon Postponed Due to Lack of Organizer

The 51st running of the Atlantic City Marathon scheduled for October 18 has been postponed indefinitely. Former longtime race director Barbara Altman said that since she stepped down after last year's race, the Boardwalk Runners Club has been unable to find a successor. Altman said the group that she hoped would succeed her was an out-of-area organization that runs large marathons across the country. Altman would not name the group. "They were going to take the marathon to new levels, but it didn't work out," she said. More

Little Rock Marathon Signs Sponsor for Training Program
The Little Rock Marathon announced yesterday it has reached an agreement with KARK, Channel 4, to become the official broadcast sponsor of the 2010 Little Rock Marathon Training Program. As the training program's broadcast partner, KARK will provide internet-based coverage of the training program, as well as special pre-race reports. The Little Rock Marathon Training Program is a free running/walking program created to prepare individuals who plan to take part in one of the races next March and is a project of Little Rock Parks & Recreation.
Mississippi Blues Marathon Alters Course for 2010

The third Mississippi Blues Marathon will be less hilly and start and end in a different location than the first two, race organizers announced yesterday. The next race, set for January 9, will start and end at the corner of State and Capitol streets in downtown Jackson, in front of the Old Capitol Museum. The new course also reduces the number of hills in the race's final miles. More

Elisette Carlson, Zoot Sports director of marketing, is leaving the company for personal reasons. She had been with the company for four years. Founder and CEO Brian Enge will assume a greater role over marketing.
Gregory M. Combs, director of sports management at the Reeves School of Business at Methodist University, has been selected to the marketing advisory team for USA Triathlon. Combs will act as a sounding board for the marketing and communications staff and will working with USAT on marketing plans for the 2010 season.
Michael Tchao, general manager of Nike Techlab/Nike+, has joined Apple Inc. as vice president of product marketing. Nike's Techlab, its technology arm, designed the Nike+ armbands and sneakers that integrate with the iPod. Tchao joined Nike in 2002.
Mark Peterman, who has been with GT Bicycles for more than 20 years, has been tapped to be its new general manager, and will work out of Cycling Sports Group's headquarters in Bethel, Connecticut, starting October 31.
Brian Boyle, the Maryland triathlete who overcame a serious car accident to participate in the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championships, was honored last week by the American Red Cross as the organization's Spokesperson of the Year. Boyle has been working with various chapters across the country for the past two years as a volunteer, a testimonial speaker. After the car accident, his heart stopped eight times on the operating table and he was told he might never walk again. |
