Brooks Sports to Sponsor Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series

The Competitor Group has announced an exclusive and multi-year agreement with Brooks Sports, to become the official footwear and apparel partner of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series. Brooks will be the official footwear and apparel partner for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, and its sister brand, Moving Comfort, will be the official sports bra for the series. Saucony Run for Good Foundation Awards Grants
The Saucony Run for Good Foundation, established to help combat childhood obesity by providing financial support to community-based youth running programs, has announced its latest round of grant winners. The seven grant recipients include organizations from Missouri, Maine, and Mississippi, a state with the highest rate of obese and overweight children (44.4%) in the country. Since the program's 2006 launch, the Saucony Run for Good Foundation has given more than $500,000 in grants to more than 50 organizations nationwide-all dedicated to promoting the sport of running as part of a healthy, active lifestyle among children. ASICS to Open First U.S. Store in Manhattan

ASICS plans to open its first store in the U.S. this fall.
The store at at 42nd street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan will open October 19. The location will focus exclusively on running with the opening timed around the November 1 ING New York City Marathon, which ASICS sponsors. SKINS and USA Cycling have announced the upgrade of their partnership agreement in order to equip the athletes of USA Cycling. Beginning in February 2010, SKINS will provide its full range of competitive cycling apparel to USA Cycling athletes across the disciplines of road, track, mountain and cyclo-cross. The three-year agreement will remain in place through the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. More
XTERRA Holds U.S. Championships at Utah Resort

The XTERRA national off-road triathlon champions will be crowned Saturday at Utah's Snowbasin Resort when a few hundred regional qualifiers begin the day with a brisk swim in Pineview Reservoir and then ride mountain bikes from the water's edge through some of the area's best single track up the mountain to Snowbasin, where they will finish with a hearty run through the trails of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The winners will compete for more than $80,000 in prize money and a chance to race later in the year at Hawaii in the XTERRA World Championship. More
Dallas' Retailer Run On! to Expand to San Antonio

This year's Road Runner Akron Marathon, to be run this Saturday - is enjoying an 87 percent spike in registration and could top 10,000 participants. ''This is an incredible situation to be in,'' said Anne Bitong, executive director of the Road Runner Akron Marathon. ''Our team was forecasting conservative registration this year due to the economy, but we've been pleasantly surprised by the increase in current registration numbers.'' More
Big Sur Half Marathon Sells Out at 6,000

The seventh presentation of the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay sold out last Friday, nearly two months ahead of the November 15 race day. "This event continues to increase in popularity," said race director Wally Kastner. "We've grown the field every year, and we keep selling out earlier." Malibu Marathon Wins City Council Approval

The Malibu City Council voted unanimously last week to allow Forever Runners LLC to operate the inaugural Malibu International Marathon & Half Marathon on November 15. The marathon will start at the Camarillo Airport and run through the flat farmlands of Ventura County before completing the race along Pacific Coast Highway. The half marathon is the last half of the marathon course. More
Pasadena Marathon Happy with Date Change

The move of the Pasadena Marathon to February 21, caused by the Los Angeles Marathon's change from May to March 21, has become a plus according to Israel Estrada, executive director of Pasadena Forward, the nonprofit producer of the marathon, half-marathon, bike tour and 5K and fun run/walk. "It does affect us, but I think in a positive way," Estrada said. "And a lot of people in training for the full L.A. Marathon may do the half-marathon with us as training for that." More |
