Triathlon Growth Includes Popular Kids Triathlons

Growth in triathlon participation has not been limited to adult athletes. Triathlons for children have become tremendously popular, drawing participants as young as 3 years old. USA Triathlon, the sport's governing body, said that in 2008 it had about 23,500 members who were under 18, up 36 percent from 2006. More  
 
Chicago Hosts World's Largest Triathlon This Weekend

More than 8,700 triathletes, including Olympians, physically challenged athletes and first-timers will be among the participants in this Sunday's Chicago Triathlon.  The world's largest triathlon is the last major Olympic-sports event in the city before the October 2 selection of the site of the 2016 Olympic Games. Hancock's Boston Marathon Program Raises $3.7M

John Hancock's Boston Marathon Fundraising Program has reported that it raised $3.7 million this year for nearly 60 charities through its marathon program - a 12 percent increase from the $3.3 million raised in 2008. The company, through its sponsorship of the marathon, receives hundreds of race participation numbers each year that allow marathoners to enter the race without obtaining a qualifying time. Instead, the runners need to raise at least $3,000 each for a participating charity. This time around, 890 runners raised an average of about $4,000 apiece for charity. More 
 
Skins USA Reaches Deal with Gathering Storm Holdings

Compression apparel company Skins has reached an agreement with California-based Gathering Storm Holdings to handle its U.S. business operations. Skins USA has relocated from Boulder, CO to Carlsbad, CA where Gathering Storm Holdings will assume distribution, sales and marketing responsibilities. The company also announced that it has retained sports-apparel industry veteran Tim McCool to lead the business. David Scott, who worked in the University of Miami athletic department for 28 years, has been named general manager and race director for US Road Sports & Entertainment of Florida -- the organizing body of the ING Miami Marathon and a series of other endurance races in South Florida. 
 
John Tompkins, the former president and COO of New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc., has been named to an advisory role with Spira Footwear.  Tompkins will assist with the development and expansion for the Spira brand.
 
Dave Quel has been promoted by Ecco to the position of chief operating officer of Ecco USA and Martin Klitgaard will join Ecco USA as the company's new CFO.

The Events Manager will manage, organise and implement plans and initiatives for the portfolio of running events the charity is currently involved in. These events include The London Marathon, Great North Run, British 10k, London Triathlon etc.In this role you will plan, organise and support the involvement of the charity and their participants in the events, source and manage volunteers and staff support at the events as well as developing the runners network in order to increase their level of support and to integrate them into other events.You will also produce regular communication (eg newsletters for each event), ensure delivery of sponsorship income and line managing an events assistant.).

The World Triathlon Corporation, owners of the Ironman, Iron Girl and Iron Kids brands and event series is recruiting for a Sponsorship Manager.  Responsible for managing local, regional and national sponsorship sales - as well as coordinating international sponsorship opportunities. This position will be based either in New York or at our headquarters in Tampa, Florida. Sponsorship Sales

Company: Red Rock Company, Inc.

Sponsorship sales position for an event promotion company that hosts a series of triathlons in Arizona and Mexico as well as a national 5K running race series. The triathlon series includes 5 events and the 5K running event series is expected to include 14-16 events nationally in 2010. Primary responsibilities include procurement of cash and in-kind sponsorships for the events individually and collectively as two series.  Initially this will be a part time, commission based position. Commissions will be based at 20% of cash sponsorship contracts and 10% of in-kind sponsorship contracts at time of receipt.
