Greetings!
We are coming up on our first anniversary later this month and we have plans for a fun celebration at the studio to be announced shortly. In the meantime, our new Fall schedule begins today. Highlights and changes are below as is all the information about workshops and events coming up over the next six weeks.
The soon-to-be Fall season is a great time to commit to your individual "practice" again. My "practice" over the last two months has been teaching yoga to 13-18 yr old young men (who have run afoul of the law) at a great center that is helping them get their lives back in order.
We mostly practiced "respect" to ourselves and each other with concepts of self esteem through poses like "mountain pose"-- A mountain is strong, proud and peaceful. Not the shyest of groups, one smart young man pointed out that Mt. St. Helens is not exactly peaceful. True, it's a volcano so it's not exactly a mountain either in the same way a tomato is not really a vegetable, it's a fruit. I said. How's that for inspiration kids? Do as I do, not what I say please.
All kidding aside, the script on your normal yoga class was flipped in almost every way and you really had to be clear with what you said and why you were asking them to do something. The first step on the yoga path for them was getting their chins' up and their chests' proud again. To take deep breaths and be still before making decisions. To enjoy brief moments in life where challenges were met and overcome. Ultimately, some of the same lessons we all are practicing as well. That's what fascinating about lessons in life--we were never really sure who the teacher and who the student really were. We hope that your transition back to school and back to pre-Fall is going smoothly. Thank you for your valued patronage support and friendship. We look forward to celebrating our anniversary with you shortly.
With gratitude-
Bill & everyone at Sellwood Yoga
