Dear (Contact First Name),

Greetings in the Name of the Lord Jesus!  With all the problems in our nation and the world, it is a wonderful thing to know that you belong to Christ, and that God has everything under control, and that He has plans to use all of us together to tell the nations the Good News of Christ!  Thank you for standing with us with your prayers and gifts as we go with the Gospel!

Please pray for DSEA Staff Evangelists Scott Nute and Dan Grindstaff as they leave next week for a project in Kisumu, Kenya and an introductory mission in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Dan and Scott will have the opportunity to preach the Gospel to thousands of students, teachers and administrators in more than forty school programs, and will also minister in local churches.  They will host a Leadership Development Conference, and work side-by-side training our NEST (National Evangelist Support Team) partners in Kenya.  We want to help these Kenyan evangelists and pastors to reach their part of the world, which is constantly facing crisis, with God's message of hope in Jesus Christ.

Also, please pray for us as we prepare for other projects around the world in 2010, in Africa, Asia, and in Latin America.  Amidst the tragedy in Haiti, it is great to see missionaries, our military, and other Americans just trying to get some water, food, medical help, and basic shelter to some of these helpless people.  It is, however, sad to see the unwise and unscrupulous things that some groups are doing.

Please pray with us at DSEA as we pray about a long-term strategy to bring hope and the Good News in Haiti, in a way that would honor the Lord, and would help the Christian leaders in Haiti reach their people even in the midst of such dire circumstances.

I am so glad that I get to be your friend.  Thank you for partnering with us to reach people with the life changing message of Christ!

Your partner in the Gospel,

David

David Stockwell preaching the Gospel, Rwandan refugee camp 2009 DSEA Mission Statement

The mission of David Stockwell Evangelistic Association is to fulfill the Great Commission by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ internationally, and by assisting local leaders in equipping believers for effective ministry.

This Mission Statement is based upon the following verses from the Bible:
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations . . . teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always . . ."
Matthew 28:18-20

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ . . ."
Ephesians 4:11-16
David Stockwell has proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ as a full-time evangelist for over forty years.  He and his wife, Amy, have expanded their international ministry in many countries in Africa, Central and South America, Asia and Europe. Together, the Stockwells are committed to the clear, uncompromising communication of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

David Stockwell, Rice University football A Word From David:
Faith, Football and "The Saints"

Most of you know that I was born in Louisiana, and raised in Baton Rouge.  I was always going to be an LSU Tiger!  Though I was offered a football scholarship at LSU, I felt led of God, even as an 18-year-old new Christian, to come to Houston, Texas on a football scholarship to Rice University, and to begin a ministry to reach the world for Christ.

Even though it has been a while, I remember clearly those days playing against teams like LSU and the University of Texas, and even the Aggies, in front of over 70,000 people, and on television.

We all know that reaching people with the Gospel is far more important, but nearly every pastor and missionary I have ever known loves to talk about sports.  Being a Houston Oiler/Texan fan has been frustrating, so we all understood the New Orleans Saints fans' frustration.  Many of my friends and family are LSU Tigers and Saints fans.

My life-long friend, missionary evangelist Ron Herrod, who has a ministry with some similarities to ours, wrote a note today that I enjoyed reading, in which he shared some "spiritual" insights from the Saints' Super Bowl victory.  If you have a moment, please enjoy reading it below...

SPIRITUAL LIFE LESSONS FROM A CITIZEN
OF THE "WHO DAT NATION"
by Dr. Ron Herrod

If football matters at all, this is my year. I am a lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and a New Orleans fan from their first kick-off. Even my ring tone on my cell phone is "When the Saints go Marchin In".  A national championship and a Super Bowl win are not bad in the same season. Wow!

The Crimson Tide victory at the Rose Bowl was seen by millions, but the Saint's victory was the most watched TV presentation in the history of television. It was a fun and joyful experience to be in New Orleans the week of the Super Bowl and to be a part of the delirium. It was great to watch the game with my friend and board chairman, George Bass and his family. I then spent the remainder of the evening at the home of another board member, Ed White, before catching an early flight on Monday. Amazingly every Times Picayune newspaper at the airport was gone by 6 AM. If you have one, I will give you $10 for it. For those who know how cheap I am, that is unbelievable.

Like everything else I do, I will try to apply something spiritual to this event...

1.     The Joy of Delayed Gratification!

Did you know the Saints scored a touchdown on the first kickoff to open their first game 43 years ago? Of course, they lost that game and most games since. When they showed Saints highlights for many years, it was mostly made up of Dempsey's record breaking kick against the Lions. The Saint's most famous quarterback until now, Archie Manning, never won more than half the games in any season. It has been a dismal journey including calling them the "aints" and wearing paper bags over our heads. BUT IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! The long wait has made the victory sweeter. That must be one of the reasons Isaiah told us "they that wait on the Lord will renew their strength."

2.    It's not how you start, but how you finish that matters.

It would have been extremely disappointing if the Saints had started well this year and lost the "big one". Even in this game the Saints fell behind 10-0. Only one team had ever come back from a ten point deficit to win a Super Bowl. By an instant poll after the first quarter 75% of Americans felt the Saints could not overcome this deficit to win the game. Near the end it still seemed they needed a "miracle" to win. One of the T-shirts in the Who Dat Nation said "Finish Strong."  They did!  Saints win! "I have finished the race."  II Timothy 4:7

3.     The Importance of Leadership!

Everyone who knows the story will tell you that both Sean Payton and Drew Brees came to New Orleans with a sense of destiny and discipline. They gave the team example, work ethic and inspiration. They never stopped believing it would happen. It is a great team but history has proven that victory would not come without excellent and committed leadership.
II Timothy 2:5

4.     The Difference Between Happiness and Joy

I lived in New Orleans for 15 years and I have never seen the city happier than this past week. A mayoral election, Mardi Gras and the beloved Saints in the Super Bowl created ecstasy in the streets. I spoke at New Orleans Seminary and even in that intellectual community, there was extreme happiness. But we must face reality. This happiness will fade; it always does. Happiness depends on what's happening.  Joy depends on Jesus and He never fails. Joy from knowing Him never fades. "In your presence is fullness of joy."  Psalm 16:11

5.     Strength Comes From Adversity

I will always believe the greatest difference between the Saints and Colts in that game was motivation. The Saints were playing for more than a game; they were playing for a city that needed a win. The anguish that Katrina brought to the Gulf Coast was devastating. The city needed something to lift spirits. I have learned more in the valleys, the storms and the furnace than I ever learned from the easy times. The "Big Easy" has not had it easy for a long time and strength was gained from their adversity.  II Corinthians 1:8-9

6.    Even the best of us makes mistakes.

Arguably the best quarterback in the history of the NFL may be Peyton Manning. He is incredible mentally and physically. It is unfortunate he had to be the loser in this game. It is regrettable that in spite of a near perfect game, it was his mistake in throwing an interception that sealed the Saint's victory. Remember that you can move on even after your mistakes. Philippians 3:13

7.   It's Only A Game

Now, life goes on. All that will really last is what we learn from this that can enrich and improve our lives. One second into eternity, the score of this game won't matter.  All that will matter is if you know Jesus! Only one life and will soon be past; only what's done for Jesus will last.
I Corinthians 9:24-27

YOU MAY NOT BE IN THE SUPER BOWL...
BUT YOU CAN BE A WINNER TODAY!

Helen Stockwell, December 2009 A Godly Heritage

Helen Depew Stockwell

Today, I honor my wonderful mother, Helen Depew Stockwell, on her 83rd birthday.  Happy Birthday, Mom!

Through my mother's Godly influence and example early in my life, I came to know and understand that knowing and serving Jesus is everything!  Many mornings, she sent my siblings and me off to school with a fried egg and grape jelly sandwich in hand, and a song about Jesus in our hearts.  We would often come home from school to find her laying flat on the floor in prayer, worshipping the Lord and praying for people and for our family.

Mom is a prayer warrior.  She is mighty in spirit, and has prayed our family through many, many trials, sorrows, griefs, and disappointments.  She is victorious in Jesus, and the greatest example of the love of Christ in any person that I have ever known.  Even with the news of my brother Vernon Stockwell, Jr.'s death at the age of 22, through her tears and grief, Mom smiled with the light of Jesus in her heart, and said, "We still have victory in Jesus."  What an awesome woman of God!

My father, especially later in his life, and my mother both taught me to love God and to serve Him - to work hard, and to be the best I could be with the gifts He has given me.  I have carried their love, their leadership, their work ethic with me throughout my life.  Thank you, Mom, for loving me, and for showing me what it means to belong to Jesus.  I love you today!
