Greetings!
Well, last week was certainly challenging for most of us, as the blizzard of 2011 buried us in snowdrifts 4 feet high and caused a rare airport closure. We pride ourselves on staying open for business when other airports are forced to shut down, but this time we just couldn't keep up with Mother Nature. As you know, our first snowplowing priority is to keep the runways and taxiways open, and plowing out the hangar areas is our next priority so that you can get out and fly as quickly as possible. It works a lot like we experience with road plowing crews, where the main roads are cleared first, and the side streets take a little while longer. Fortunately, the airport didn't suffer any damage...except for a little bruise to our pride. We appreciate your patience as we cleaned up, and as we continue to manage the errant snowdrifts. If you didn't make it out to the airport during the blizzard, check out our photos on .

Stars & Stripes Honor Flight Reunion
Waukesha pilots and the local Stars & Stripes Honor Flight chapter are planning an event on July 23rd, 2011, here at Waukesha County Airport to honor those veterans who have participated in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C., those who are eligible but can't fly, and those on the list for future flights. There will be a static display of warbirds, re-enactors and vehicles at the event. Lunch will be served to honor the S&S volunteers who put on all these Honor Flights and take care of our Veterans. The day will end with dinner and a hangar dance with a 16-piece big band and Andrews Sisters singing act. The group is looking for volunteers and sponsors to help with the event. This is a great opportunity to give back to those who gave so much for us! If you are interested in participating, contact Scott Dennison at sdennison@accuratespecialties.com. Help us thank those that served! |
| Clear the Deer
The Bucks may give their competitors reason to "Fear the Deer," but aviators have a whole different perspective on that concept. That's why we've been working on some improvements to keep the local deer population away from the airport and out of your flight path. Along with the new gate 11 installation last fall, we also replaced the 6 foot fence, which the deer were able to leap over without too much effort. We're told our new 10 foot high fence is sufficient defense to prevent both deer and Bucks from gaining access.
In addition, you may have seen workers removing trees and brush on the Northwest side of the airport over the past few months. This effort is to make it a much less inviting habitat for deer to frolick on our grounds. We're optimistic that these efforts will substantially reduce the safety risk posed by our furry friends and neighbors.

T-Hangar Roof Replacement Project
As many of you are aware, we experienced storm damage to three T-Hangar roofs a few months ago and we permanently repaired two of the hangars in the first part of December. Hangar 674 suffered the most damage and we are evaluating the possibility of tearing down and replacing it with a new steel T-hangar building.
