Airport 75th Anniversary Event August 21
You should have received an email invitation to our 75th anniversary event this week, and we're looking forward to seeing you and your family there to celebrate with us. The event will be held Saturday, August 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Atlantic hangar and it's free of charge as a thank you to all of you for making Waukesha County Airport such a terrific asset to the community.
All of our tenants, the owners and employees of our airport-based businesses, and our fabulous aviation enthusiast groups are all invited for a fun day of music, entertainment, a salute to our 75-year history and plenty of refreshments for everyone. If you haven't RSVP'd yet, please use the following link so we will know how many people will be attending and can be sure to order enough food, soda and adult beverages to keep everyone happy. Thanks!

Greetings!
We'd like to thank all of you who participated in the annual Wings Over Waukesha event in June, which was another successful effort that enabled the community to experience the world of aviation in an up-close and personal way. The B-17 from EAA was again a big hit and the airport received quite a bit of positive media coverage, especially from the local television stations. We plan to host the event again next year, but we've requested that it be moved to August to better accommodate the busy flying schedules of our tenant aviators, and to, hopefully, avoid the heavy rainfalls that have been a challenge the past two years.
Our next event is, of course, the big 75th anniversary of the airport, which we decided should be a private thank you party for our airport community, rather than another big, public event. We hope you can join us on August 21 so we can officially express our appreciation for all that you do to make this a great place for us all to work and play.
Sincerely,
Kurt Stanich Waukesha County Airport Operations

What's Up with the Grass Mowing? You may have noticed a hiccup in our grass maintenance this summer. This was caused when the winning bidder for our grass mowing contract had difficulty performing to airport requirements and eventually decided they could not fulfill the terms of the contract agreement. The County Highway department has taken over the mowing duties short-term while we assess whether it will be cost-effective to utilize them on an ongoing basis, or identify a new contractor to take over the mowing duties. We apologize for the shaggy appearance around the hangars and runways during the service gap, and we're committed to finalizing an agreement with a long-term provider in the next few weeks.

Security Gate Re-design Planned
As you are well aware, airport security is a big priority for Waukesha County Airport and all other airports across the country, and this issue is continually monitored and scrutinized by the FAA and other federal authorities. We are about to begin a project to re-design gates 9 and 11 along Northview Road, and replace gate 10 in the South East hangar area, in order to reduce the potential for unauthorized vehicles to gain access to the Airport Operations Area (AOA).
Gate 10 will be replaced with a gate that functions only for specific airport service vehicles such as fuel trucks, in order to prevent drivers unfamiliar with the airport from accessing taxilanes and reduce the potential for vehicle/aircraft collisions. Gates 9 and 11 will operate at a higher rate of speed to prevent "tailgating" by unauthorized vehicles and they will only open across one lane rather than the entire width of the entry roads. There will be separate entry and exit lanes for each gate.
The gate re-design is expected to begin this fall. We will keep you informed via email as the project begins.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project, or if you know of anyone who needs a security badge for authorized entry to the AOA, please ask them to Email Kurt or call 262-521-5250. |

Airport Moves to Public Works
Waukesha County recently decided to change its organizational structure and, as a result, Airport management will be moving within the Waukesha County Department of
Public Works in January 2011. This move will not cause any changes that are visible to
airport tenants and businesses, but we do anticipate that it will help
us to improve efficiencies by combining services in areas where other
Public Works departments can provide them, rather than requiring outside
contractors. One example of these efficiencies has already occurred over the July
4th weekend when a patch was needed to repair pavement that had buckled
in the heat. This repair happened much more quickly through Public
Works than it could have been done through outside contractors.
