ROOTS Fest 2011:
Reflections on Hard Work & Success

ROOTS Fest Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Whether you're a member, guest performer, community member, participant, funder, or sponsor, without you, ROOTS Fest 2011 would not have happened. On behalf of Alternate ROOTS, we are indeed grateful for your support and participation.

If you ventured to Baltimore in late June, we hope that you heard something that sparked your thinking, met someone that sparked your interest, and/or shared something that sparked even a little bit of change in someone.

It was truly a beautiful experience to see Franklin Street filled with 10,000 people from all walks of life sharing and being human together. It is an image that will stick with me for a lifetime. As we return home to process all that we experienced, we realize that we are just starting the real work that it will take to sustain the thoughts, ideas, and dreams that we shared during those five days.

Over the course of the next few weeks, Alternate ROOTS will be actively engaging all of you in hopes that you will share your reflections and ideas post-event with us. ROOTS is now embarking on a strategic planning process that will carry our work through the next 3-5 years. We hope that you can share with us your vision of the world we can and will create together and what place ROOTS has in that world.

I urge you to stay engaged with Alternate ROOTS as we continue to strive for relevance in our next 35 years.

With love and forward thinking,
Carlton Turner

Member News - Call for Participation

If you've been around long enough, you may remember and even miss our past publication known as "Member News."  It was a monthly edition on paper filled with news that was of, by, and for our members exclusively.

In the coming months, we will be re-launching the Member News in an electronic version.  The goal date for first re-boot is August 1.  If you have stories, articles, upcoming events or reflections that you'd like to share, please send those along to Shannon Turner at shannon@alternateroots.org by July 29.
