Pack Your Bags
The theme of this month's newsletter is called Pack Your Bags for some very important reasons:
- We relaunch the Tour & Residency Program.
- Our Member Profile features a member artist/organization that's both a part of the tour and definitely on the go!
- We've got some ideas for you about how to get yourself to ROOTS Fest 2011.
- As always, there are conference and retreat announcements a-plenty, so read on...

Member Profile: Shannon Woolley Allison Looking for Lilith Theatre Shannon Woolley Allison is celebrating an important anniversary this year - ten years as a ROOTer. She's served on the Executive Committee as secretary in the past and says that coming to Alternate ROOTS along with her friend and colleague, Trina Fischer, to discover that there could be a different way to make art than conventional theatre-making helped to 'midwife' Looking for Lilith. Read more about her favorite ROOTS memory (involving being called 'mouthy' by Nayo Watkins) and her biggest challenge as an artist by clicking here or click here listen to the full interview. |

Travel to ROOTS Fest
Wanna get yourself to ROOTS Fest, but not quite sure how? Perhaps local funding is the answer. Your state, county, or city government agency may have conference/travel funding to assist in your registration and travel costs. We have compiled a working list of the state and regional arts councils for ROOTS' service region. You can help this list grow. If you learn of deadlines, changing contact info, or new resources, please feel free to send information in to shannon@alternateroots.org or post it to our Facebook page.

The RSC Corner
Issue #1: The RSC Curriculum Project
From now on, the folks of Alternate ROOTS Resources for Social Change work group will be posting short reports on our progress as often as possible. Look for interesting stories about upcoming instructional publications and seminars put out by the RSC members. This month, we recognize the incredible work of RSC members Ebony Golden, Hope Clark, Gwylene Gallimard and Omari Fox, as they research and develop the manuscript for the first ever trade publication of its kind, a comprehensive presentation of the Alternate ROOTS theory of social change through art, told in the form of essays, case studies and roundtable discussions. The book will bring together writings from over two dozen past and present ROOTers over the last 20 years. Look for more information on the blog as the curriculum project unfolds (literally)!
