How Much Do You Really Know About Your Constant Speed Prop?
Most pilots of complex or high performance aircraft know what happens when they push the blue knob but not much more. Learn what's going on with all of this through a great Power Point presentation by Derek Beck.  Click here and look for  "Constant Speed Prop"

Know About the New Aircraft Type Codes?
It's really not that new, but in 1998 the FAA changed the type codes we use for flight plans.  It's especially important now that we're all submitting flight plans electronically and unless you have the correct code for your make and model, the software won't accept it.  Look up the aircraft you fly here and find the file named "FAA Aircraft Type Designations"

Gary Stern Earns CFI

Gary Stern, who took his instrument and commercial with me has now passed his CFI.  Gary did all this within a year and was successful on all checkrides on the first attempt. Gary's goal was to fly the Predator for the military and because of his advanced ratings, was recently selected to do just that.  Gary is currently on a 16 week training program in an undisclosed location somewhere in the desert!

Gary had this to say about his CFI experience. "I passed my CFI checkride the first try thanks to Dave Simpson. I decided to pursue a CFI certificate after having experienced Dave's professional and fun approach to flight instruction. Experiences with prior instructors had left me feeling no urge to want to follow that path. After meeting Dave and having him bring me from my Private rating to Instrument, then Commercial, and now to CFI, I was exposed to a better example of flight instruction and this is what made the idea of becoming a CFI attractive to me. If you find that you are tired of being just another student, call Dave and find out what you are missing. Thanks again Dave".

Ant Bilsev Earns CFI

Ant Bilsev, a German student of mine has a similar story.  Within the past year, Ant has taken instrument, commercial, and now CFI and like Gary, passed all three on the first attempt.  Ant also has a tailwheel endorsement and glider license.

Jerry Swartz Earns Instrument Rating

Congratulations to Jerry Swartz who received an instrument rating after his successful checkride in July.

Jerry had this to say about his experience. "I came to Dave Simpson from another instructor but had never got to the IFR checkride stage. Dave was able to assess my skills and work with me to get me to checkride readiness. In the course of our work Dave introduced me to cockpit automation and SRM topics in a manner consistent with the latest PTS and that I had not experienced before. By the end of our lessons I was well prepared for a successful checkride and had increased my knowledge and skills. My education with him transformed me from a tentative IFR student to a more competent and confident IFR pilot. His easygoing manner and knowledge made the experience enjoyable and I'm looking forward to more instruction from Dave in the future"
