Sandoval and Ceasefire: A new front against crime
Cicero IL. A proven crime fighter and anti-gang advocate, Senator Martin A. Sandoval (D-Chicago) continues to push forward new legislation and more funding to effectively combat gangs and violence in Illinois.
This year Senator Sandoval with the leadership of Cicero Town President Larry Dominick sponsored SB 140, an anti-gang bill and in April 2009 successfully passed Senate Bill 141 which increases criminal penalties for gang members that recruit minors. "Gangs are a major public security issue for our communities," said Sandoval.
"This legislation will provide recourse for the police and family members who are dealing with gang members recruiting minors on a daily basis." Ceasefire-Cicero Program Director Rev. Ismael Vargas (pictured to Sen. Sandoval's left side) said that "Our whole community is thankful. Senator Sandoval is truly a key ally, an inspiration to our efforts and we look forward to continue fighting together."
Senator Sandoval represents the 12th Legislative District including the Southwest Side of Chicago and the suburbs of Cicero, Berwyn and Stickney.
