Sandoval champions new legislation that will save thousands of lives in Illinois

Sen. Martin A. Sandoval (D-Chicago), organized a recent health fair for
families and their children in Cicero. Committed to health issues in
Illinois, Senator Sandoval has co-sponsored new legislation that will
significantly improve stroke care state wide and will save lives. Under
his leadership, SB 1516 passed the Senate unanimously.
Springfield,
IL - State Sen. Martin A. Sandoval (D-Chicago), co-sponsored
legislation that will significantly improve stroke care state wide and
will save lives and reduce misery and disability caused by stroke.
Under his leadership, SB 1516 passed the Senate unanimously.
SB 1516 amends the State Finance Act and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act, creates
the Hospital Stroke Care Fund as a special fund in the State treasury.
Provides for deposits into the Fund and purposes of the Fund as well as
creating grants to hospitals for the acquisition and maintenance of
necessary infrastructure, including personnel, equipment, and
pharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of acute stroke
patients.

will continue my commitment to provide the appropriate funding to make
all the necessary improvements in our health service system to benefit
everyone in Illinois," said Senator Sandoval. "I will work tirelessly
with my colleagues and with Governor Quinn to ensure that our residents
obtain the best possible care in the state."

American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association are
fortunate to have the vote of compassionate legislators such as Senator
Sandoval as part of several committed chief sponsors in both houses of
the General Assembly," said Mark Peysakhovich, Senior Director of
Advocacy of the American Heart Association.
This bill has passed the Senate and now goes to the House of Representatives for their consideration.
Sandoval represents the 12th Legislative District that includes the Southwest Side of Chicago and the suburbs of Cicero, Berwyn and Stickney.
