Chicago, Illinois - Mass transit, the Olympic Games and the federal Stimulus package were intensely discussed during an official meeting at City Hall between Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley and Senator Martin A. Sandoval (D-12) Chairman of the Illinois Senate Transportation Committee.

"As Chicago and Illinois face new challenges, Senator Sandoval's leadership will be essential to help move forward our plans to put people back to work by assuring that the city and the state receive their fair share from the federal Stimulus package, to properly channel adequate funding for public transportation and to reassure the state support as we continue our quest to be chosen by the International Olympic Committee for its next summer games in 2016," said Mayor Daley.

Chicago has invested more than $11 billion in capital improvements since Mayor Daley became mayor in 1989. Chairman Sandoval's experience and knowledge will be crucial for the city's goals.

"Under Mayor Daley's leadership, Chicago's community programs have become national models. As Chairman of Transportation in the Senate I am looking forward to work alongside Mayor Daley to ensure that the residents of Chicago will receive the adequate funding for infrastructure programs, schools and mass transportation but in particular I would like to see Chicago as the site of the Olympic Games in 2016," said Chairman Sandoval.
