Springfield, Illinois - Senator Martin Sandoval (D-12) a leading advocate for environmental issues has championed another effort in restoring crucial funds for state parks and wildlife, swept by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Senator Sandoval sponsored SB 1132 a bill designed to protect the matching state money required by the federal government. Thus SB 1132, signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn, should lead to the restoration of millions of dollars from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
"Unlike his predecessor, it is encouraging to see that Gov. Pat Quinn is an advocate for the quality of life issues affecting working families in Illinois," said Sandoval. "More than $15 million in federal funds are being provided to ensure that our constituents can continue enjoying our natural resources all over the state."
The funds have been earmarked for the following 6 state programs:
- Wildlife and Fish Fund - Fish and Wildlife endowment Fund - State Pheasant Fund - Illinois Habitat Endowment Trust Fund - Illinois Habitat Fund - State Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Fund.
In addition to his efforts towards conservation and recreation, the legislation sponsored by Senator Sandoval also restores money slashed last summer to the budgets of the offices of the Treasurer, Secretary of State and Attorney General. Senator Sandoval represents 250,000 residents of the 12th Legislative District that includes the Southwest Side of Chicago, including the cities of Cicero, Berwyn and Stickney.
