''Tis The Last Rose of Summer" |
Greetings!
Well, it's very nearly that time again, the most controversial season of the year. Some of us are excited to get into sweaters again and enjoy the outdoor weather more, and sweat less. How many of us have a soft spot for a mountain of multi-colored leaves? Still others of us hold tight to the summer, refusing to pronounce it's death until September rises to go. Regardless of how we each may view the coming of fall, we at the Wellness Center can't help but feel lucky to live in a part of the world where Nature announces it's arrival , not quietly, but in such glorious splendor that the rest of the world comes enmasse to witness firsthand! As the weather gets crisper, the days get shorter, and the beautiful green carpet transforms into a palette of brown, red,and gold let's enjoy the last vestiges of summer before we begin to pay homage to the joys of indoor insulation, comforters, mattress heaters, and fireplaces. As always, thank you for being an important part of our Wellness Center family. Be well, have a great month! Hope to see you soon! Mindful MomentsReflections on Summers Well Spent
By Tina Clark, Licensed Professional Counselor

For many of us the beginning of September signals the beginning of the busy season. I can always tell September is here when my todo list has to be written in micro-type to fit in the allotted space in my calendar. The morning mountain air begins to feel almost chilly enough for another layer. There are other not-so-subtle cues too. I haven't stepped inside a major retail location in a week or so but I would imagine an endless array of holiday items are beginning to take up significant real estate there. I will save my thoughts on that for another time. Since, according to the The Farmer's Almanac, summer does not officially end until 5:05am on September 23rd, I choose instead to focus my thoughts of gratitude for the present season. When you think of summer I am guessing many of you are thinking about vacations, sandy beaches, cookouts, a more relaxed pace and your favorite pool or swimming hole to cool off in. When I think of summer I think about all of those things too, but mostly I think about summer camp. My life forever changed the day I stepped out of my parent's car and into the white gravel parking lot at Camp Green Cove one June morning in 1983. I could write a book about my experiences and life lessons learned there... (Continued)

A Variety of Classes offered by Kelley Wolfe PH.d
Our Whole Lives: Girl Power
Our Whole Lives: Girl Power For Rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders Why is sex education important for this age child? Our whole lives are marked by developmental milestones or rites of passage. In our sexual lives, these milestones are happening earlier. Around early adolescence, girls become more aware of gender, beauty standards, gender roles and sexuality. The life long journey of sexual self-discovery starts to gain steam around this age.
Children want to talk with their parent about sexuality. For parents, this can be very anxiety-producing to say the least. Learn how to have open dialogue throughout your child's growing-up years, because when children are educated, confident, and comfortable with sexuality, they are likely to be good sexual decision makers. An educated child is an empowered child.
