Rental of The Multipurpose Room
Greetings!

We hope you have had a wonderful summer. It's hard to believe it's coming to an end and teachers all across WNC are gearing up for back to school. Speaking of which, please check out our article below regarding the Tools for Schools project. Our kids in Western NC need our help.

We'd like to thank, all of you as usual for being a part of our wellness community. If you haven't had the opportunity to rent our Multipurpose Room, we look forward to seeing  you again this fall as indoor activities begin to increase. For those of you who haven't, or didn't even know we had a Multipurpose Room for rent, please stop by, check it out, and consider us for your rental needs. If you're in the market for new office space or ready to fulfill that New Years Resolution to get your dream business up and running, you'll be delighted to know we have office space for lease (details below).

We would especially like to thank Rachel Acker, our friend from Sunset Realty for the wonderful new picture of the WWEC Rainbow, which epitomizes the feelings of good fortune we've been blessed with at the WWEC. As your summer winds down and you're looking for things to do for yourself, please remember to check out our events page on the website. You just may find that special class or workshop you've been hoping for. Please don't forget to check out our ongoing classes and groups at the WWEC like Empowered Birthing Childbirth Education Classes, the Asheville Area Music Together groups, MamaTime and the Blue Ridge Meditation group. If you are looking for an awesome massage, take advantage of Nancy's coupon offer of $20 off your first time massage with her; you won't regret it. Natalie's 30 for $30 is a sure fire way to relieve stress as well!

HELP OUR SCHOOLS! DROP OFFSOME TOOLS!

While we don't generally think about all of the areas on which our current economy has made it's sometimes devastating mark, there are some areas where the impact is slightly less apparent than others. Cuts to school supply budgets in Western North Carolina schools don't just affect our schools, they also affect students, teachers and parents. On Wednesday, August 11th, WLOS, and Clear Channel, will join Ingles & Eblen Charities in Tools for Schools, an annual, one day local school supply drive. During last year's Tools for Schools drive, the event collected over a million pieces of school supplies.
If you are inclined  to pick up a few extra supplies this year, please donate them to the Tools for Schools drive in your County, on August 11th, at one of the Ingles locations listed below, or the WLOS studio between 8am and 5pm.

Everything is food...
by Wendy Tran

Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. Primary foods feed us on many levels, but they don't come on a plate. When your "primary foods" are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary. The more primary food we receive, the less is our dependency on secondary foods. The opposite is also true. The more we fill ourselves with secondary foods, the less we are able to receive the primary foods of life. As we work together you will discover what you are truly hungry for in life. While working with you, we will deconstruct your food cravings and explore the connection between your secondary food and your primary mood.

Preparing for Birth and Baby
by Trish Beckman CNM

New parents are often surprised by some of the mixed emotions that normally occur in the first few weeks after the birth of their baby.

Although these may be some of the happiest days of your life they are also some of the most challenging. The baby that is so cute when asleep can be so demanding of your attention at all other times, and often in the middle of the night. Meeting the baby's needs can mean that mom's needs just simply don't get met. When you want nothing more than a long bath or a nap, you may be required to walk and settle a fussy baby for hours. The sleep deprivation, hormonal changes, challenges of breastfeeding, and total adjustment to a new pattern of life can be unnerving, and overwhelming to many couples.

What can you do? Be proactive and get ready for this time.

My top recommendations include taking a childbirth class with a great breastfeeding component to get you and your partner well prepared for both labor and breastfeeding.

I also recommend considering seriously when you would like family and friends to visit and where you would like them to stay. Family can be such a source of wonderful support and help, but can also be an additional source of stress in an already challenging time.

Finally do what you can to make sure some of your basic needs can be met. Think about meals and have your fridge and freezer stocked with healthy nutritious and EASY to prepare foods before you deliver. There is an affordable and local organic weekly meal delivery service at veginout.net. Massage can be a wonderful way to deeply relax; I would recommend requesting a postpartum massage as a gift at your baby shower. A good postpartum massage therapist would be happy for you to bring the  baby and nurse before your treatment, if you so choose. My strongest recommendation is to join Mamatime a nonjudgmental 12 week group for new moms that meets weekly with 10-12 moms and a trained facilitator. The support of other new moms can be instrumental in helping new moms find balance and humor as they navigate the first few months of motherhood. To register for an upcoming Mamatime class call Shelley at 828-582-4653
