Harvard on the Move comes to Longwood 


walking shoesHarvard on the Move, a University wellness initiative begun in Cambridge earlier this year, launched in the Longwood Medical area with a community walk on March 8 and has announced a weekly walk and run schedule. The walks are normally around 2.5-3 miles in length and the runs include short (1-3 miles), medium (4-6 miles), and long (8-14 miles) routes. Meet on the pathway in the Harvard Medical School quad, near Longwood Avenue.

Schedule   

  • Tuesdays at 12:00 PM: WALK
  • Wednesdays at 5:00 PM: RUN
  • Thursdays at 12:00 PM: WALK
  • Sundays at 10:00 AM: RUN (This run will begin and end in Cambridge, not Longwood, and the running routes will center around the Charles River pathway. Event includes a free Yoga for Runners class, followed by brunch).

HSPH awarded $8 million from EPA for air pollution research

 

pollutionHSPH was awarded an $8 million grant by the United States Environmental Protection Agency to launch one of four new university-based Clean Air Research Centers. The Harvard Clean Air Research Center will focus on investigating the effects of pollution exposure across life stages on heart and lung function, inflammation, birth weight and growth, and cardiovascular disease-related deaths and hospitalizations. HSPH delegation visits Tanzania and Botswana nutrition, AIDS programs

 

Tanzania groupA delegation of HSPH friends and faculty--including HSPH Dean Julio Frenk and Dean for Academic Affairs David Hunter--visited HSPH programs in Tanzania and Botswana recently, meeting with government officials in both countries and learning more about the School's longstanding efforts around AIDS and nutrition in East and Southern Africa.
