Dean Frenk, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon call for action to address chronic disease in developing countries

Julio FrenkHSPH Dean Julio Frenk spoke on a panel about the rising burden of chronic disease in the developing world at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland on January 27. The panel called for international cooperation to address the 35 million deaths worldwide that occur each year from chronic disease. Read more

New appointments

Ian Lapp was appointed associate dean for strategic educational initiatives. In this new position, Lapp will direct HSPH's "Roadmap to 2013," a strategic planning process of HSPH's educational mission. 

John McDonough was appointed professor of the practice of public health, Department of Health Policy and Management, and the first director of the new Center for Public Health Leadership in the Division of Policy Translation and Leadership Development.

HPRC launches new website

The Harvard Prevention Research Center on Nutrition and Physical Activity (HPRC) has a new website, which  includes updated project descriptions, publications and tools developed by the Center, and extensive links to additional nutrition and physical activity resources.


The revamped site provides an additional way for the Center to communicate with current and future partners and to disseminate tested materials designed to improve nutrition and physical activity and reduce overweight and chronic disease risk among children, youth, and their families.
