PARO FESTIVAL 2012

Annual festivals known as "Tsechu" takes place at various time of the year celebrated in monasteries, Dzongs and villages throughout the Kingdom of Bhutan. Paro Festival is one of the most popular and well attended of all the festivals. Monks as well as laymen dressed in brilliant costumes and wearing colorful masks re-enact the legends and history of Buddhism in the Dragon Kingdom. The festival culminates in the spectacular showing of the huge 350 years old Thangkha celebrating the deeds of Padmasambhava.

YEAR OF THE ROYAL WEDDING

On OCTOBER 13, 2011, Bhutan witnessed a grand celebration of the Royal Wedding of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to Jetsun Pema in the Buddist tradition, which took place in the country's old capital of Punakha. Perhap the jubilation of the nation on this occasion will surely mark the highest level in the country's "National Gross Happiness" index.
