Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
The officials of Zhangjiajie Region of Hunan Province, has formally renamed the Qiankunzhu Mountains known as the "South Sky Column" to "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain" after the blockbuster movie set world box office record.
The officials hoped the maneuver would distinguish Zhangjiajie as the foremost tourist destination in the region. The renaming was not without controversy among the Chinese populace. Faced with criticism the official has backtracked saying that the renaming was not to honor the foreign film but as a way of proving that the Mountain was the inspiration behind the creation of the Avatar floating mountain.
