Thank you to everyone that made our Annual Meeting happen.  We met at Preservation Hall Wednesday evening and had such a nice time.

Historic Newburgh, Inc. is so lucky to have talented and hardworking volunteers.  Because of that we gave a number of awards that night.

Picking award winners is always hard because so many people do so much!

Blake Larson was awarded a beautiful plaque acknowledging his efforts as President of Historic Newburgh, Inc. 2010-2011. He is Branch Manager of People's Trust & Savings Bank and has been involved with HNI since 2001.  He has been involved in many of our fundraisers.  Most recently he has been spearheading our effort to establish a strategic plan for Historic Newburgh, Inc.

Volunteer of the Year - Melissa McGuire is super volunteer.  She is a past president of HNI and has served the organization in many capacities.  From a late night take-down at the Wine Fest to working every other fund raiser that comes along.  Melissa has devoted countless hours to the staffing and merchandising of our Historic Newburgh Shop.

Merchant of the Year - Scott Lauderdale is the owner and operator of Country Gentleman Antiques.  He has a bachelor degree in Art and has been an antique dealer since the early 1980's.  Scott has had a shop in Newburgh for over 25 years and has been involved in the Merchant  Association ever since.  He has volunteered his time for pictures with Santa, any of our local parades, and the Fiddler Fest.  You name it..... he has had some involvement.

Board Member of the Year - Lou Dennis has been involved with HNI since 1982 when she volunteered at the Made by Hand Shop.  She has been on the board of directors for almost 30 years and most of those years she has been our treasurer.  She has faithfully come to the office one or two days a week for years....where she has her very own desk for all of the internal needs of our organization.

Two new awards were given this year.  We added the Tech Awards because without the volunteer efforts of these two people we would be in a world of hurt.

Tech Award - Allen Tate is the technology guru for the Ohio Township Public Library System.  He has been so kind to help Historic Newburgh with our computer server needs...in otherwords our e-mail system.  We are so lucky to have someone like Allen volunteer his time to help us.

Tech Award - Andy Mullins, the owner of Weathervane Media, was living in downtown Newburgh.  He noticed our website and decided it could use some improvements.  He volunteered his time to update the website and has been wiling to assist in any way.  Very soon he will be adding a link to all of our business members' websites.

Farm Life - Angel Mounds
Angel Mounds

January 29 - March 16 - Normal Operating Hours

FREE with general admission

Angel Mounds State Historic Site is proud to present its newest temporary exhibit Farm Life: A Century of Change for Farm Families and Their Neighbors. Provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities on the Road and hosted at Angel Mounds, Farm Life offers visitors a view into life on a working farm. Rather than focusing on the technology of farming, though, this exhibit examines what it means for a family to live and work on the land. Through artifacts, photographs, graphic text panels, and interactives, audiences learn about the social, economic, and cultural framework of farms and their surrounding communities. An exhibit unlike any other, Farm Life is a unique experience that is perfect for any age!

To accompany this extraordinary new exhibit, Angel Mounds will be hosting "Farm Fundays on Sundays." Every Sunday through the exhibit's duration will feature at least one activity, demonstration, and/or tour at "Farm Fundays on Sundays."`

Businesses....there are advantages to being a member of Historic Newburgh, Inc. Number one, you will have your business name listed over there in the right column.  In addition, we are working on a list of member names to be on our website.  When someone left clicks on your name there will be a direct link to your website. Please call me, if you would like to participate.
Volunteers Needed! As you might expect, we will be needing volunteers for our special events.

There will be another volunteer meeting for the Evansville Living Wine, Art and Jazz Festival on February 24th at 6:00pm.  There are still volunteer opportunities available.

Our Fireworks Committee has met and will start working on our committees soon.  There will be more to come in terms of opportunities for volunteering.

We also need volunteers to help staff our HNI Gift shop and Warrick County Tourism office. We are looking for volunteers from 10-1 and 1-4 each day of the week...even weekends.

This would be a great opportunity for those of you who are retired or have some spare time during the day.  Maybe you are a recent high school or college graduate and are still looking for a job.  This could give you some administrative/shop experience.  Your help will be appreciated.

Please call me at 812-853-2815 or e-mail at www.director@historicnewburgh.com.
