Dear Friends of Feral Cats,
At our monthly clinic for feral cats on Sunday, December 13th, our dedicated volunteers spayed, neutered, and vaccinated 163 of Alachua County's homeless cats!
Here are the highlights:
Volunteers
11 Veterinarians: Dr. Julie Levy-OC Medical Director, Dr. Cynda Crawford, Dr. Deborah Cottrell, Dr. Alex Gallagher, Dr. Mariano Guas, Dr. Sarah Kirk, Dr. Karen Schaedel, Dr. Fred Schirmer, Dr. Cassie Quest (a UF grad who came all the way from Orlando to spay!), and Drs. Nirit Tzipory and Brian DiGangi (student surgeon supervisors).
26 Vet students
39 Other Volunteers
Total: 76 volunteers!
A special thanks to Sharyn Passeretti for a delicious lunch of fresh chicken parmigiana and macaroni and cheese, Judy Angley for refreshments, Alexandra Tilton for the Papa John's pizza, and all the anonymous donors who brought food to feed our hungry volunteers.
Operation Catnip would not be possible without its dedicated volunteers!
Cats
163 cats total were spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and feline leukemia virus, and received Revolution to prevent fleas, ear mites, intestinal parasites, and heart worms.
Of the 163:
46 Kittens
117 Adults
93 Females
70 Males
8 cats received annual booster vaccines to help keep them healthy and happy. Caregivers may bring Operation Catnip "Graduates" in for free annual boosters.
Operation Catnip thanks all of you that came out for the last spay day of 2009.
See you next year!
Sincerely,
Shaye Olmstead, BA Operation Catnip Manager

Operation Catnip says farewell to Dr. Tzipory |
|

While practicing small animal medicine in Israel Dr. Nirit Tzipory volunteered as a spay/neuter surgeon at the Tel-Aviv SPCA. She came to the United States in 2008 to receive specialty training in shelter medicine at UF. During her internship Dr. Tzipory was involuved in local veterinary outreach programs. She volunteered at the Saint Frances House Pet Care Clinic and supervised the vets of tomorrow at Operation Catnip's montly clinics helping them learn and perfect techniques that will prepare them in their carriers for high-volume spay and neuter to help further our community's dream of one day having No More Homeless Pets. Dr. Tzipory is on her way back home to Israel after spending over a year with us. We are grateful for her service. | |
