Past President's Message
Tanya Straker
Thank you to all who made it out to APTNYC events this past year. And what a great year it has been! We explored type differences using Step II and we explored how MBTI® fits with and is distinguished from positive psychology. We looked at type dynamics, type "in the grip" and type throughout life stages; and we practiced identifying behavioral clues to personality. Our speakers included recognized practitioners and leaders within Type community. We held evening programs, a Saturday morning brunch and our own Cynthia Sefton conducted a half-day workshop. We learned, we laughed and got to know each other and most importantly ourselves, better. We welcomed new members and created new partnerships with CPP and AMA.
As we close out this program year, and I step down as Chapter President, I want to thank everyone for your support and encouragement. I am thrilled that Juanita Davies, a long time member of the APTNYC Board, will be serving as Board President. I look forward to continuing to serve as Marketing Director along with continuing and new members of the board.
Have a wonderful summer, continue to better the world through your love and use of type, I will see you in the fall.
Best Regards, Tanya

Rosie O'Grady Social Kicks Off the New Year Len Gomberg
Rosie O'Grady's hosted the APT New York Metro Chapter's transitional social event Monday, June 11 in what has become an annual commemoration of the changing of the guard between Chapter Boards. Three past Chapter presidents and the incoming president participated, along with 20 other Chapter members and guests, in making this social a highly successful and energetic gathering. Juanita Davies, the incoming president, is enthusiastic about the upcoming year. "I am looking forward to an exceptional year for the APT New York Metro Chapter. Our Board of Directors is working as a team to reach out to the community and to put together a wide-ranging and appealing slate of events for the coming year. Our chapter is made up of a group of diverse and talented members. We've received inquiries from folks who want to join and from people who want to become more involved. Working together, we will continue to maintain our presence as a vital part of the APT community."
Tanya Straker, the outgoing president, felt the Rosie O'Grady social was remarkable and looks forward to more such activities. "I've been to three of the Rosie O'Grady social events, and I felt this one was the best in terms of energy, camaraderie and the ease of socializing I observed. I found this event enjoyable as well because it gave me the opportunity to meet and get to know current and potential Chapter members whom I would not have the chance to converse with at a formal Chapter event. I see social events such as these as a great forum to influence attendees who are not members to consider joining."
Camille Rinato, who held the reins as president prior to Tanya, will move to Zurich, Switzerland very shortly to join her husband. Thus, this social was her last Chapter event before the move, and her contributions to the Chapter will be sorely missed. All four presidents got involved in meeting the attendees and handing out door prizes.
Attendees came from varying professional backgrounds and Types. Most attendees did identify themselves by Type, and it was noteworthy that there were four INFJs at the social, as INFJ is the rarest of Types, comprising only 1-3% of the population. 1 There were also three self-identified ESFJs at Rosie O'Grady, the only people there with an "S" in their Type. ESFJs make up 13% of the population, second behind ISTJs and ISFJs at 14% each. 2
Two MTA employees were among the attendees, along with government and hospital employees and consultants. Also attending was founding Chapter president and famous author, Shoya Zichy, whose third book on her Color Q personality system will be published shortly.

Our Chapter Needs You! Juanita Davies
This year, I had the pleasure of assisting Camille Rinato with the nominations process. Several other board officers also took an active role in reaching out to chapter members to identify individuals who might be interested in taking a position on the board. It was great for us to speak with folks whom we may not have gotten to know at a regular event. What we discovered was that there are quite a few people in our chapter who do not necessarily have the time to commit to being a board member, but who are interested in helping to keep APT New York Metro a vital part of the MBTI® community. If you want to contribute to the chapter by offering ideas for events, volunteering time to help with outreach, or becoming more involved in some other way, please stay in touch with us! (My email link is below.) If you have a good book, website or other resource that can benefit your colleagues, please send me that information in an email to jdaptnyc@aol.com and I will include it in our next bulletin. Chapter members are welcome to submit articles for publication in our newsletter. Let me know if you are interested in writing and I will send you the guidelines for having your article included. If you are a member of the chapter and you have recently been honored, published a book or article, have a special speaking engagement coming up or have some other good news to share, email me and I will include a mention in our "Members in the News" section. We look forward to hearing from you!
