The old saying goes, if your dog is over-weight, you are not getting enough exercise. Our goal is to meet with other local active, and not so active, dog owners who are interested in running (or walking) with their dog for general fitness or to lose a couple extra pounds (both you and your dog). Runners and walkers are welcome.

A Bark From Josie
Val Kilmer at Fashion for Paws
 
Jeff and JackHi Everyone!

I have some great news about a dog funding raising event, Fashion for Paws® (F4P) to benefit the Washington Humane Society (WHS).  The event is drawing big stars to the DC area on March 28th at the Embassy of Italy.  The Honorary Chairs include the star of Batman Forever, Tombstone and The Doors, Val Kilmer, NBC's Luke Russert and Animal Planet's Victoria Stilwell.  Also included in those big stars, my Dad, will be a runway model in the fashion show.

 
The heart and soul of the event are the fundraising models who agree to raise funds in the weeks leading up to the fashion show and participate in a friendly fundraising competition. The top male and female fundraiser will be awarded the title "Model Washingtonian of the Year," on the runway on March 28th.
 
If you would like to go to the event, or support our fundraising effort, please go to our fundraising site.  The event will sell out so if you plan on going, don't wait to buy a ticket.
 
We'll be doing a silent auction at the store for a 5 and 10 day pass.  The highest bidder will win the pass and all proceeds go as a tax deductible donation to the WHS.  Ask at the front desk for further details.

February Dogs of the Week

JosieParker for the week of 2/1/09
Parker is a Kong Pro here in the Gym. He loves the game FETCH!! He will even throw the Kong at you to get your attention! We love having Parker here. He is an awesome dog.

Meet Lulu - she is a very cuddly lady! She comes here with her brother Teddy, a pug, and they enjoy long naps on the futon in the Toy Box or playing games with other dogs!! Either way, it's a great day for them at Dogtopia® of Alexandria!!!

Morie for the week of 2/15/09
Morie is a regular here at Dogtopia® of Alexandria!! He always comes with a smiling face and happy tail. When he dressed for Halloween he said it best... "Dogtopia or Bust"

Bear is a Kong crazy little guy!! He also talks a lot to the pack leaders, usually when we aren't throwing the Kong. Bear has so much fun here that he never wants to go home, which is just fine with us!!



 
Pawsitively Fit

Dr. Katy Nelson

Dr. Nelson is a 1997 graduate of Louisiana College and a 2001 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.  She is in charge of the Alexandria Animal Hospital Pawsitively Fit program.  Obesity is the number one medical problem affecting dogs today, and this program gives canine owners suggestions and helps their dogs get started on the right track for successful weight loss.  Dr Nelson and her collogues are taking this recent health problem and look forward to teaching dog owners the tools to weight management.
