The School of Congregational Development wrapped up Sunday in St. Louis Missouri.
 
West Virginia's next resident Bishop, Sandra Steiner Ball, was there, along with Rev. Amy Shanholtzer, Rev. Thomasina Stewart, and conference communicator Laura Allen.

Bishop Steiner Ball said the giving life through Jesus Christ is at the heart of congregational development. "We have the best story in the world, the greatest gift in the world," she said. "We not only have a responsibility, but a call and passion to share that."

Next year's School of Congregational Development is August 15 - 18, 2013 in Denver, CO. "I'd love to see some of our churches represented by pastors and laity," said the bishop.

Fall Events
Candler Professor to speak in Huntington 
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntington will host a convocation September 9-10 at the church. This year's theme is "

Rev. Dr. Thomas Long will be the featured speaker. In 2010, Preaching magazine named Long's

The United Methodist Men host an annual retreat September 7-9 at Jackson's Mill. The weekend starts with a Friday morning golf scramble to raise money for Scouting ministries. The event continues through the weekend with prayer, praise and worship, and fellowship. At the same time as the retreat, Scouting units from around the state meet for their annual camporee. This year features several activities including geocaching, dutch oven cooking and laser shooting. 
Spiritual Formation Retreat
The Spiritual Formation Task Force will host a retreat on Taize Music and Worship. The event will be November 2-3 at Dunbar United Methodist Church. Learn more and register here.
Clergy School
The theme of this year's Clergy School is 'The Healing Ministry of the Church.' Clergy will meet September 18-20 at Cedar Lakes Confernece Center near Ripley, WV. Click here for more information on presenters and to register.
Work Team Need in Southern W.Va.
Derecho recovery continues in many parts of West Virginia, and you can help. There is a need for roofing work teams in Fayette, Greenbrier, and Kanawha Counties. "FEMA has not provided assistance for these folks, so churches really have an opportunity to help," said conference disaster response co-coordinator, the Rev. Dan Lowther. UMW Annual Meeting
