Bishop Steiner Ball was in Charleston early in August for a transitional visit to the area. She met with Bishop Grove, received an overview of the Conference and visited the new episcopal residence. School of Congregational Development (SCD) this week in St. Louis

The United Methodist Men host an annual retreat September 7-9 at Jackson's Mill. The weekend starts with a Friday morning golf scramble to raise money for Scouting ministries. The event continues through the weekend with prayer, praise and worship, and fellowship. At the same time as the retreat, Scouting units from around the state meet for their annual camporee. This year features several activities including geocaching, dutch oven cooking and laser shooting.

Spiritual Formation Retreat
The Spiritual Formation Task Force will host a retreat on Taize Music and Worship. The event will be November 2-3 at Dunbar United Methodist Church. Learn more and register here.

Work Team Need in Southern W.Va.
Derecho recovery continues in many parts of West Virginia, and you can help. There is a need for roofing work teams in Fayette, Greenbrier, and Kanawha Counties. "FEMA has not provided assistance for these folks, so churches really have an opportunity to help," said conference disaster response co-coordinator, the Rev. Dan Lowther. Cash Funds Received Through June 2012: $96,987.18
Distributed to each Conference Mission Project and VIM: $9,448.00
Distributed to each Church and Community Ministry: $4,724.00
10% Invested in UM Foundation Mission Projects Trust Fund: $7,231.18
In addition to the cash funds, several van/pickup loads of supplies were donated at the 2012 District Events. Thanks to district teams, groups, churches and Individuals for your wonderful and caring responses.
Cash contributions for 2012 Celebration of Mission Event Funds can be sent to the Conference Treasurer through December. Our goal continues to be $100,000.00 for the benefit of our mission ministries this calendar year.

We Remember
Alexander Pamplin Easley Sr., brother of Rev. Paul H. Easley (FE-R), passed away August 11. Service will be at Simpson Memorial United Methodist on Saturday, August 18 at 11am. Rev.
