Worship Resources from the United Methodist Church

Young children may have no memory of 9/11, but live a different life because of it. The General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) has created 40 Days of Prayers for Children, a resource designed to express hope, love, fear, confusion, and the power of God's grace. GBOD also has provided a litany of healing and hope on September 11 here.

Cokesbury has a Sunday School resource available to download on 9/11. How have our lives changed over the past ten years? As we remember this day and the victims of these attacks, how can people of faith move forward and reclaim a day that was meant for evil as a day for hope?

You can also view these resources and more by visiting umc.org/911.

Christian Education Sunday is September 11

The way to best prepare God's people to deal with all the perils in the world is to teach them how to study, utilize, and come to love the Word of our Lord. That's the purpose of ChristianEducation. Your church can support this ministry through a special offering on September 11, 2011.

Click here for resources and more information, or print this bulletin insert to help promote this Special Sunday in your church. Church treasurers should use fund #822 when filling out remittance forms; and make checks out to 'Conference Treasurer'.

Then and now: Young adults remember 9/11

If you were a child or youth in 2001, how did the events of Sept. 11 affect your life? United Methodist News Service posed that question and heard back from several young adults. Connor Kenaston, who grew up in the West VIrginia Conference shared his thoughts, you can read the piece here.

You can share your story too by visiting umc.org/911.

Tough Questions

It's been a decade since 9/11, and the anniversary falls on a Sunday this year. Who will be in your church that day and what questions will they ask? Are God and Allah the same? Does God create evil? How do we treat people are truly evil? Find answers to these questions and other United Methodist beliefs at umc.org/911.
