The Weekly Shout-out

Ministry Stories from around the Conference

Small groups in a couple of churches are the highlight of this week's shout-out.

Sandyville Charge Small Group
Rev. Tim Edin (left) leads the membership small group of the Sandyville Charge

The membership small group of the Sandyville Charge in Jackson County has spent 5 weeks studying what it means to be a United Methodist Christian, and how that translates into everyday life. Buzz about the group and what they were doing spread through the charge, and plans are in place to begin another class.

The folks at Community of Grace in Huntington use the Ministry Action Team meeting as a place for spiritual formation and growth first - church business is second on the agenda. "There have been times we have to call another meeting to get our business done, because we have spent all of our time in prayer and study," said member Marsha Murray. You can see how well the team works together just by looking at the smiles on their faces.

Another shout-out to Spring Heights, who launched their new website this week (it looks great!). Spring Heights has also revamped their Facebook page and have joined the Twitter universe: twitter.com/spring_heights. Start planning now for summer camp - brochures are in the mail this week, but you can catch a sneak peek at springheights.org.

Finally, the new Conference blog launched last week.  Check out The Quad @wvumc, a place where we'll highlight the connection is between faith and our public lives. Last week's story was about Bishop Grove's testimony at a public hearing on the death penalty. Today's post is about clergy burnout and spiritual formation.
