In Prayer

Meeting new people in the community around a church begins with the pastor, says church planter and consultant, Jim Griffith. The challenge for many is getting out of the office to do it. "Pastors have become prisoners of their offices," said Griffith in a presentation to pastors at the 2011 Congress on Evangelism, which met January 4-8 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. His workshop, Get out of the Office!

Inspired?  Sign a team from your church up for Jim's Growing your Church workshop to learn more about reaching new people for Christ.  Teams must include the lead/senior pastor and at least 3 key laypeople.  Register by January 31 for a $100 discount.

Help new mothers care for their children

Right From The Start Program at Burlington UM Family Services

Burlington United Methodist Family Services (BUMFS) is working to reduce the rate of infant mortality in West Virginia through their Right From The Start

(RFTS) program.

The program works with pregnant women to ensure access to health care, nutrition and health education. It also provides referrals to social service agencies as needed.

You can help by purchasing items on the program's walmart.com wish list. Your church can buy formula, diapers and other items for mothers and their children. Each item remains on the list until the need is met. If you're shopping at your local Wal-Mart Store, remember to print the barcode on the wish list so your purchases appear on the website to other people.

If you have questions, contact Alleda Taylor by e-mail or call her at 304-788-2342.

New Life Camp at CDOM
Community Development Outreach Ministries offers the New Life Program to educate, empower, and prepare young women to be the best moms they can be. You can help introduce music to their children by voting for the program. They're competing for a $1000 grant from Kindermusik, and you can vote ten times a day until February 9. Click here for more information and to vote.

Spiritual Growth Opportunity

How do we live out our call as United Methodists in the West Virginia Conference? How does our Conference mission statement, which says we 'belong to, are filled by, and serve God, translate to a life of faith?

The registration fee is $75.00 and covers meals, lodging, snacks, and materials. We'll begin at 7 pm March 4, and conclude our time together by 4 pm March 5. Dr. Art Tucker is the retreat leader.
