Golden Cross Sunday Special Offering May 2
The Golden Cross Program began early in the history of
Methodism in America,
primarily to support church-related hospitals and long-term health
care facilities. The Evangelical United Brethren
Church also collected
offerings to support its health-care institutions. When they merged with the Methodist Church
in 1968, the Golden Golden Cross Sunday offering was continued as a way to support the new
denomination's health-care ministries. In the WV Conference, Golden Cross Sunday offerings are
split evenly between Burlington UM Family Services and Glenwood Park
Retirement Village. The Golden Cross offering provides support to Glenwood residents and
Burlington/Beckley residents not provided through grants or other offerings. It is essential to both agencies so that
they can continue to provide services not funded by other sources.
Download a flyer that can double as a bulletin insert here. Churches are encouraged to take up a special offering this weekend. Church treasurers should use fund #650 when filling out remittance forms; and make checks out to 'Conference Treasurer'.
