Cedar Rapids to Dog Owners: Scoop the Poop
Cedar Rapids wants its residents to scoop up their dogs' poop before it can contaminate urban creeks.

The city says the nearly 2 tons of excrement...

K9 Acres News
Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation informs us that the new dog park is seeded and they are now waiting patiently for enough rain to get it going. They are also deciding which trees to plant this fall as well as what benches to install.

Unfortunately, the park is unlikely to open this fall because the grass needs a chance to establish itself before dogs are allowed to run. If we get on the grass before it's ready and kill it, the park opening will be delayed that much longer. Thank you for your patience.

If Your Dog Is Aggressive, Maybe It Is in Pain
Dogs can sometimes suffer sudden episodes of aggression without their owners understanding why. But, in many cases, the cause of these attacks can be pain that has never been diagnosed or treated.

The Weekend That Went to the Dogs

The hundreds of dogs and their owners who attended the dog swim on August 25/26 at Bever Park Pool had a great time, even though the rain that Sunday may have dampened the fun for some of the people (but definitely not for the dogs). Enjoy these pictures, courtesy of Kris Ambroson.

K9 Acres Dog Park

Please remember that the new off-leash park, K9 Acres, IS NOT YET OPEN FOR USE.

Park neighbors have complained that people have been using the new park. The City had agreed to put in a vegetative buffer between the neighbors and the park, and it is not finished. The Parks and Recreation Department has posted signs that the park is not open and has padlocked the entrances.

We have to wait until everything is finished and ready to go.  If you know of people using the new park, please tell them to wait.

We have been waiting a long time, but we are getting closer. Once the grass grows and all the plantings are done, the park will be ready. When it is ready to use, we will have a huge grand opening!

Thanks again for your interest in our dog parks, and we'll look forward to seeing you at the park!

Sincerely,
K9COLA Board of Directors
