Volunteers Needed

Trash Volunteers are assigned through September. Many thanks to them!

We need people to help staff our booth at the Farmers Markets. THANK YOU to everyone who donated, helped, or just stopped by to say hi at the Farmers Market last week! We are still looking for volunteers for the rest of the markets. Please let Jill know if you are interested.

We will be needing more volunteers when the new park opens, so please think seriously about offering your services.

Dog Treats Needed!

If any of you out there are bakers, K9COLA could sure use donations of home-baked dog treats to sell at the Downtown Farmers Markets! The treats are very popular - plus selling homemade items is what allows us to maintain our booth! See an example
recipe in an adjoining article. Please contact
Jill, our Volunteer Coordinator, to offer your baking services! Thanks

The New Park
This week, the Parks Department is finishing up any work they have left to do at the new off-leash park . Hopefully, the weather will stay dry until they have everything done, and then we need rain so the grass will grow in well. The opening date will depend on the weather. Lots of rain is what we will need. Hope for the best!
Cleanup and Recall Testing

Recall testing will be offered at Cheyenne Park at 11 am on Saturday, June 9th. Recall that you can get a discount of $5.00 off the cost of a park permit for each dog that passes the test. This discount is good for as long as the dog uses the park.

Cleanup work will begin at 8:30 am. Hope you can help!

What Is Your Dog Thinking?
Ball Launcher
When your dog gazes up at you adoringly, what does it see? A best friend? A pack leader? A can opener? Many dog lovers make all kinds of inferences about how their pets feel about them, but no one has captured images of actual canine thought processes -- until now. Read More

Rockwell Collins Grant

Rockwell Collins
K9COLA has received a $1,000 Rockwell Collins Green Communities Grant. Together with approximately $1500 in matching donated funds (already collected by K9COLA), the money will be used to plant trees at the new off-leash area across from Gardner Golf Course this summer or fall. Thank you, Rockwell Collins, for this new partnership opportunity. We look forward to completing the project!

WANTED: K9Splash! Volunteers
K9Splash!

Hello Volunteers! We are so excited about the wonderful swimming weather! It's time to start setting up volunteers for the K9Splash! 2012 at Bever Park Pool. This year, the dates are August 25th and 26th. The volunteer shifts are 9:30 am-12:30 pm, 12:15-3:15 pm, and 3:00-6:00 pm. You can work as few or as many shifts as you like. Just for volunteering, you receive a free volunteer t-shirt. However, to save on K9COLA's costs, if you have a t-shirt from last year and would like to re-use it, that would be spectacular!  Two shifts earn you a free dog entry to the swim, which will be registered at our volunteer meeting in August. You will not need to register the dog in advance. An entire day of volunteering gets you all of the above plus a free lunch. We also have a new shift this year: we need someone to do data entry for us. It will only be a few hours during the afternoon. You would have to be computer savvy and familiar with Excel. We will supply the computer.

Please let Jill know (1) what day you would like to work, (2) the shift hours you would like to work, and (3) whether you have a t-shirt already or would like a new one, and if so, what size. All specific requests will be on a first come, first serve basis, so the earlier you respond the better!

K9COLA at Farmers Market
Farmers Market
We had a great start to the downtown markets on Saturday, June 2. Four wonderful people made and donated dog treats for us to sell. We had seven different kinds of treats. There was a total of 76 bags of treats and we sold out at 11:00 am! This was the most bags of treats we have ever had and also the first time we sold them all. We also talked to a lot of people about the parks, which is one of the most important reasons  we are there at the Farmers Markets.

It was a very good start to the market season. We made $241.07, a good start. We have already covered our costs for the whole market season.

For anyone wanting to make and donate treats to sell, we will always gladly take them. You can always email me at
steve@k9cola.org, or my cell phone is 360-0300. Thanks again to those who made dog treats this time.

Whine for a Good Cause

Our wine tasting fund raiser went very well, especially in light of the cold and threatening wet weather.

We made $1655.00 in all. Our 59 attendees earned us $600 (half the entrance fees, including an extra $10 contributed by the wine shop owner) plus 10% of sales, which was $400.00. The silent auction garnered $655.00.

Dates to Remember

The K9COLA July board meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on July 11th at Cheyenne Park Off-Leash area. You are welcome to attend.

The next K9Splash! planning meeting is scheduled for June 19th at 5:45 pm at Ambroz Rec Center. If you would like to help, please come!

Thanks again for your interest in our dog parks, and we'll look forward to seeing you at the park!

Sincerely,
