Site Committee
| |
If anyone is interested in joining the K9COLA Site Committee, please let Steve know. We would like to make a few pieces of agility equipment for Cheyenne Off-Leash Park and it may be possible using old barrels and tires. It would be nice to be able to buy new equipment, but it is very expensive. Your ideas will be very helpful! If you would like to help out with these projects or have thoughts or questions, please write steve@k9cola.org.

Mt. Vernon Dog Park
| |
The Mount Vernon Dog Park committee will be hosting a dog wash at Chalk the Walk in Mt. Vernon on May 5th and 6th from 10:00 am to 2 pm. They will be set up behind City Hall and the old fire station near the alley (so the wet dogs don't ruin the artwork). The suggested donations are $5 for a wash, $10 for wash and MVDP bandana, $15 for wash and T-shirt, or wash, bandana, and shirt for $20! All funds raised go towards the development of an off-leash park in Mount Vernon. If you don't want a wash, you can buy a shirt at $12 or a bandana for $4. Write mvdogpark@gmail.com or visit facebook.com/mvdogpark.

K9COLA is beginning to schedule Spring recall test sessions. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail info@k9cola.org and we will put you on the list to receive details about the day and time this event will take place. Remember, passing this test allows you to receive a $5 discount on your permit (if you are not already receiving a discount).
Join K9COLA on April 22 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Apple Creek Kennel (650 51st Street in Marion) for their open house. We will be the charity benefiting from the dog treat sale that day. We will also be answering questions about the progress at Squaw Creek and letting people know about our upcoming events. We'll have prizes and lots of fun!
K9COLA will be participating in the Cedar Valley Humane Society's Woof Walk on May 20th from 9 am to noon at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids. The 2nd Annual Woof Walk raises money for the animals at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Visit their web site to get more information. In addition to the walk itself, there will be obedience and agility demonstrations, a demonstration by the CRPD K9 Unit, and some fun contests. |

New Dog Park Opening
The Parks Department has provided updated information about opening the new dog park. They are looking at July - August for the opening date. This will all depend on how well the grasses grow in and how the weather goes. There is still a lot of work to do: cement work, parking lot and roadwork, and more fence work. Most of this will need to get done before the yards can be seeded. We have had warm weather and it seems like things should be moving faster; but it has also been very wet, holding up progress. The park will be open this year and we will keep you updated as we find out more. Thanks for your patience. |

4th Annual Wine for a Good Cause
We have set the date for our 4th Annual Wine for a Good Cause wine tasting fundraiser! Note May 25, 5:30-7:30 on your calendar, and be sure to join us at the 1st Avenue Wine House. There will be a silent auction; if you have something you'd like to donate, contact Steve at steve@k9cola.org. World's Largest Garage Sale
K9COLA will be participating in the World's Largest Garage Sale on May 12 at Hawkeye Downs. We will be accepting garage sale items at the park, on clean-up day, April 28th, from 9:30 am to noon. For this fundraiser we are looking for used saleable items; no electronics or clothes please. If you cannot bring your items on cleanup day, please call Kelly Ennis at 319-241-4652 or e-mail Kelly@k9cola.org for information on dropping off the items at another time. We are also looking for volunteers to help set up our space on Friday afternoon and help work the booth on Saturday. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kelly or Jill at Jill@k9cola.org. Watch for more information on our garage sale. Remember, we cannot do this without your help! Thanks for volunteering and for donating items for us to sell. |

Work Day
We are holding a work day at Cheyenne Off-Leash Park on Saturday April 28th starting at 9:00 am. If you have the time to volunteer for an hour or two, please stop on out!
We need people with wheelbarrows, shovels, garden rakes, work gloves, and energy. We plan on picking up any trash and poop we find in the park. Also, the city has provided a pile of the trail mix which we can spread on the walking trail in the wild area and where needed. If we can get some dirt, we can fill the holes dogs have dug in the main yard too. If anyone wants to donate some grass seed and wildflower seeds we can spread those around in the wild area.. Doing this and putting the trail mix on the trail should help some with the muddy conditions back there. There will be plenty to do if you can help out. K9COLA will have an information table set up. You can find out what K9COLA does and how you can help out by volunteering. We are always in need of trash volunteers and this would be a good time to find out what is involved with that. We will be signing up volunteers to help check the park to make sure people have permits and know the rules. It is important for every permit holder to know the rules and to follow them. We need to keep the park clean and as safe as possible. If you have questions email steve@k9cola.org. |
