The Power of Intention
vs. Resolutions
The dawning of a new year is a good time to stop and evaluate what is and isn't working in our lives. Many of us create our List of Resolutions, which actually hold a sense of falling short and the need to develop a more disciplined approach. Intention, on the other hand, is an aim or objective that we want to obtain. We declare our ideal and work toward it, rather than criticize our shortcomings and work away from them.
Here is a great approach to get your intentions down on paper from Esther and Jerry Hicks in their book Ask and It is Given, Learning to Manifest Your Desires.
1. Write one of the following categories at the top of each of four pieces of paper: My Body, My Home, My Relationships, My Work.
2. Focus on the first topic and write "This is what I desire regarding my home" and make a list. Do not work hard on the list. Just jot things that easily come to mind.
3. Now focus on each statement of desire and write the reasons WHY you want each of those things.
4. Continue this process for the remaining three categories.
I'll start ....
THIS IS WHAT I DESIRE REGARDING MY HOME
I want to keep the house tidy and clutter free.
I want to let go of the things that I don't like or use.
I want to make an afghan for the living room from upholstery fabric.
I want to maintain my home as my sanctuary.
I want my landlord to have the ceilings repaired.
I want to keep the house tidy and clutter free ...
... because I think and focus better when it's neat.
... because I won't be embarrassed if people stop by unannounced.
... because I'll be able to find what I need quickly.
I want to let go of the things that I don't like or use ...
... because I'll feel lighter.
... because I will have more space.
... because it will help me to let go of associated emotions that drag me down.
... because it will be easier to select outfits when all of the clothes are true options.
You get the idea, right? Spend some time over the next week to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). Focusing on the reasons WHY you want things softens your resistance, adds to the power of your thoughts and gives you a better chance of experiencing the results you seek.
