TDS Hosts Master Tap Series
Reggio McLaughlin & The Chair Dance
Sundays - January 23 & January 30
4:00-5:30 pm
Sundays, January 23rd and 30th - TranscenDance Studios will host master tap dancer Reggio McLaughlin from 4:00-5:30 p.m. as he teaches the Chair Dance, through a historical tap dance series open to all tap dancers of the intermediate level and above. Price of the series to the public is $30 for the two days, but TDS students (even those that are not currently enrolled in tap class, but have tap experience) will receive a special studio discount and attend the two days for $15.
The Story of the Chair Dance
The Chair Dance began in New York in Harlem at the Hoofer's Club, a famous hangout of some of the most legendary tap dancers in the world. This place was given to tap dancers to come and dance or practice. Dancers that didn't have a place to stay would come there and try to get a little sleep. But the owner didn't allow sleeping, and if caught they would be thrown out. So the dancers, while sitting in a chair, would tap their feet and try to take a little catnap. This developed into the Chair Dance.
This dance was performed on stage and made famous by "The Copasetics". Reggio partnered for 13 years with the late Earnest "Brownie" Brown, the last living, dancing "Copasetic".

New Parent Portal Secure Login
TranscenDance Studios is pleased to announce the launch of it's new Parent Portal, a secure login page where you can
view your balance, update account and student information, modify your schedule, and add family members!
Our Parent Portal link is on the left hand side of our web page
Click "Current Student / Account First-Time Use."
Enter the email address that is associated with your account (the email address at which you are receiving this email).
A temporary password will be emailed to that email address.
Once you receive the temporary password:
- Enter the account email address.
- Enter the password.
- Click Log in.
- Select Change Password.
- Enter new password.
- Select Save Changes.

Spring Break Date Change
Sunday classes will be held over Spring Break this year due to an early make up date for Easter. We will not have classes Wednesday, April 30 and Thursday, April 31 for Spring Break.

Hip Hop TransFuzion at Beye Elementary Health Fair
Bring us to your school!
Hip Hop TransFuzion, TDS's non-profit youth hip hop dance crew, assisted at Beye Elementary School's Health Fair last month. HHTF performed and taught a super cool hip hop dance to the school's more than 400 students. Many of the students remembered our dancers from the previous year and we all had a blast.
TranscenDance staff and their non-profit youth dance ensembles have taught and performed at school dances, health fairs, and after-school programs at local schools: Beye, Longfellow, and Mann.

Hawaiian Tropics Spirit Week
February 20-26
By mid-February, we are all ready for a vacation to some place tropical! Find some relief with TDS during our Hawaiian Tropics Spirit Week.
Dancers are encouraged to wear Hawaiian/beach/summer themed clothes to classes this week, as long they can still dance in their choice of outfits and all possibly distracting accessories can be removed if need be.
We will be using Hawaiian beach themed music in class and will learn a hula dance or two!
